Article Abstract

The right-to-left shunt (RTLS) through a latent patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a rare complication of right ventricle myocardial infarction (MI). Though a rare complication, the development of refractory hypoxemia after right ventricular MI should always alert clinicians to consider the possibility of shunting across PFO. Right-sided Impella (Impella RP) can be considered in such patients, which helps to decrease the elevated right heart pressure reducing the shunt, thereby providing a bridge to recovery.

The high incidence and prevalence of herpes infections pose a significant health burden worldwide. Herpes simplex virus infections are the cause of herpes labialis, genital herpes or herpes keratitis and in rare cases life-threatening herpes encephalitis, meningitis or disseminated disease. After primary infection herpes simplex viruses (HSVes) establish latency in the trigeminal and sacral ganglia and at least 30% of patients experience clinically manifestant recurrences for life.

Relative association of haemato-biochemical findings with oxidative stress markers was evaluated between natural patent and latent infection of in horses to divulge the role of these parameters in the pathogenesis of illness due to non-availablity in literature. Blood samples were collected from 429 equines of 16 districts of the Punjab and samples positive by conventional microscopy (patent Group I; oll = 13), by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (latent group II;  = 38) and healthy control (group III,  = 64) were compared for haematological-biochemical index and stress parameters. Significant anaemia in both group I and group II, and considerable neutrophilia and lymphocytopenia in group I in comparison to group II and group III was observed.

Unlabelled: Ewing sarcoma is an aggressive cancer diagnosed in adolescents and young adults. Inhibition of TGFβ is being tested in limited clinical trials for relapsed Ewing sarcoma. TGFβ is an immunosuppressive cytokine that exists in latent and active states.

Approximately 2 % of preadolescents in the United States have Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) which is associated with long-term morbidity; however, they are frequently underrecognized and undertreated. Guided by the need for self-report depression screening instruments in children below 13 years of age, this study sought to establish the psychometric properties of the Patient Health Questionnaire for Adolescents (PHQ-9A) as a dimensional measure and obtain a categorical cut-point using a structured interview-based diagnosis of current MDD in preadolescents. Preadolescent participants (10-12-year-olds; n = 470) were drawn from the Texas Childhood Trauma Research Network, a longitudinal registry of youth with trauma exposure.

Cancer metastasis is the last stage of cancer and can often lead to lethality. Cancer cells invade distal organs and establish an entirely new host microenvironment. Among several cancer-influencing mediators, TGF-β has been observed as a potential pro-oncogene to provoke metastasis.
