Context: Emergency department (ED) "boarding" for behavioral health occurs when patients remain in emergency rooms overnight due to a lack of available psychiatric beds. However, quantification of the problem and demographic characterization of affected populations have been limited and manual. When a patient stays in the ED awaiting either an inpatient psychiatric bed or community care, this is known as a behavioral health hold (BHH).

Context: The Equity Mapping Tool (EMT), a set of integrated tools providing rapid up-to-date COVID-19 data was previously developed for local health departments and health care systems in Franklin County, Ohio, to guide decisions about mobile vaccination. We aimed to engage, extend, and enhance the EMT to 12 Pathway Community HUBs (HUBs) in Ohio, connecting at-risk individuals to health and social services across 61 counties.

Program: This was an innovation demonstration project in HUBs to increase community resiliency during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Patient-generated health data (PGHD) encompass health-related information created, recorded, and gathered by patients in their daily lives, and are distinct from data collected in clinical settings. PGHD can offer insight into patients' everyday health behaviors and conditions, supporting health management and clinical decision-making. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has developed a robust infrastructure to collect PGHD, including automatically collected data from digital sensors and patient-entered data.
