The purpose of this perspective article is to emphasise the importance of the 'First 2000 Days' policy of life from conception to age five, and to propose new directions in which the policy's implementation could be extended for the benefit of children and families. The proposed approach highlights principles of responsiveness, integration, sustainability and equity, specifying initiatives that embody the kind of innovation each principle aspires to. The article also proposes innovations in data collection and linkages that would strengthen the implementation of first 2000 days policies and frameworks. This perspective proposes a framework that could improve health systems implementation of services in the first 5 years of life, by proposing a well-coordinated continuum of services with integrated physical and digital solutions. This has the potential to transform how the health system monitors and responds to children and families' needs in the critical early years of life during and beyond the current pandemic.

The human auditory system must distinguish relevant sounds from noise. Severe hearing loss can be treated with cochlear implants (CIs), but how the brain adapts to electrical hearing remains unclear. This study examined adaptation to unilateral CI use in the first and seventh months after CI activation using speech comprehension measures and electroencephalography recordings, both during passive listening and an active spatial listening task.

Background: Extended delays in non-elective surgeries have been associated with suboptimal outcomes. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic forced healthcare systems to adapt their setups for unscheduled procedures, leading, in our institution, to a reorganization from a setup with two dedicated operating rooms (ORs) at a central facility without dedicated teams to a temporary one with both dedicated teams and ORs during lockdown phase. This study evaluates the impact of this transitions on the time to surgery considering unscheduled procedures.

We present a novel, flexible framework for electronic structure interfaces designed for nonadiabatic dynamics simulations, implemented in Python 3 using concepts of object-oriented programming. This framework streamlines the development of new interfaces by providing a reusable and extendable code base. It supports the computation of energies, gradients, various couplings─like spin-orbit couplings, nonadiabatic couplings, and transition dipole moments─and other properties for an arbitrary number of states with any multiplicities and charges.

Purpose: Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) is the leading cause of paediatric visual impairment in developed countries. Earlier diagnosis provides access to early intervention, which may improve visual function, functional vision and developmental outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine the age and timing of CVI diagnosis and the severity of CVI.

Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare tumour derived from dendritic cells located in B-follicles that play a pivotal role in the adaptive immune response. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for localized disease; however, the management of unresectable or advanced disease is less well-defined. To date, to the best of our knowledge, there is no established or preferred chemotherapeutic regimen, although a number of regimens (primarily used in lymphomas and sarcomas) have been utilized with suboptimal outcomes.
