We introduce a novel method using a kilohertz (kHz) amplified 800 nm laser for the first experimental confinement of microparticles within a single beam. This study demonstrates that high-energy kHz pulses can confine 1-μm-radius polystyrene beads in water within ∼26 μm. This approach utilizes the unique properties of high-energy pulsed lasers, distinct from continuous-wave and megahertz pulsed lasers traditionally used in optical trapping.

We present a self-consistent algorithm for optimal control simulations of many-body quantum systems. The algorithm features a two-step synergism that combines discrete real-time machine learning (DRTL) with Quantum Optimal Control Theory (QOCT) using the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Specifically, in step (1), DRTL is employed to identify a compact working space (i.

Photographic imagery holds profound power in shaping narratives, identities, and perceptions in global health education. Historically, visual representation used in global health has perpetuated colonial hierarchies, reinforcing inequities and marginalizing the voices and lived realities of the communities they depict. These images can inadvertently sustain harmful stereotypes and distort the complexity of global health challenges.

Gender's influence on health outcomes is well-documented, yet gaps in gender expertise persist within the global health workforce. Simultaneously, accessible and interactive gender training opportunities are limited. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Gender and Health Summer Institute (GHSI), launched in 2023, aims to address these gaps by advancing the gender integration and analysis skills of health professionals.

This case report describes a 56-year-old woman with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and chronic renal failure who underwent transcatheter arterial embolization with N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate-Lipiodol before renal transplantation. Both kidneys were significantly enlarged, necessitating transcatheter arterial embolization to reduce renal volume and create space for transplantation. The right kidney volume decreased from 2520 to 1150 mL within 9 months after transcatheter arterial embolization, enabling successful transplantation.
