Although observational studies have shown that adolescent cannabis use is associated with impairments in important psychosocial domains, including peer, romantic, and parent-child relationships, educational outcomes, adult socioeconomic status, and legal consequences, mechanisms underlying these associations remain largely unclear. Cannabis use may have a deleterious causal effect on functioning, but it is also possible the association may be due to reverse causation or confounding by shared vulnerability factors that account for both cannabis use in adolescence and concurrent and subsequent psychosocial impairment. Causally informative studies that delineate these possibilities, including research using epidemiologic samples and quasi-experimental designs, are critical to move the field forward.

The legalization of cannabis in several states across the United States has increased the need to better understand its effects on the body, brain, and behavior, particularly in different populations. Previous rodent studies have revealed age and sex differences in response to injected Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). However, the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of THC administered through more translationally relevant routes of administration are less well known.

Method: A systematic review was conducted of 8 electronic databases. Inclusion criteria included original research studies that investigated the association of biological factors or behavioral tasks with depression combined with concepts of anhedonia or cannabis combined with concepts of amotivation including apathy.

Purpose: Little is known about transgender and gender expansive (TGE) adolescents' and young adults' (AYAs') pain and psychosocial experiences in the acute postsurgical period following gender-affirming surgery (GAS). This study describes pain symptomatology and psychosocial functioning within 1 month after GAS among TGE AYAs, examines immediate postsurgical associations of cannabis use with pain symptomatology, pain catastrophizing, and psychosocial functioning, and explores pain persistence, cannabis use, and psychosocial functioning in a subgroup of individuals 6 months after surgery.
Methods: AYAs ( = 64) underwent GAS at a large academic medical center in the Pacific Northwest between March 2019 and June 2023.
