Zika virus (ZIKV) infection has caused devastating consequences in Brazil as infections were associated with neurological complications in neonates. is the primary vector of ZIKV, and the evolution of insecticide resistance (IR) in this species can compromise control efforts. Although relative levels of phenotypic IR in mosquitoes can change considerably over time, its influence on vector competence for arboviruses is unclear. Pyriproxyfen (PPF)-resistant populations of were collected from five municipalities located in Northeast of Brazil, which demonstrated different resistance levels; low (Serrinha, Brumado), moderate (Juazeiro do Norte, Itabuna), and high (Quixadá). Experimental per os infection using ZIKV were performed with individuals from these populations and with an insecticide susceptible strain (Rockefeller) to determine their relative vector competence for ZIKV. Although all populations were competent to transmit ZIKV, mosquitoes derived from populations with moderate to high levels of IR exhibited similar or lower susceptibility to ZIKV infection than those from populations with low IR or the susceptible strain. These observations suggest an association between IR and arbovirus infection, which may be attributable to genetic hitchhiking. The use of PPF to control Brazilian may be associated with an indirect benefit of reduced susceptibility to infection, but no changes in disseminated infection and transmission of ZIKV among PPF-resistant phenotypes.

This study aimed to estimate the occurrence of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and its associated factors among male road transport workers. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a non-probabilistic sample of 414 drivers recruited at gas stations and parking lots in Formosa and Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil, in 2024. The presence of EDS was evaluated using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the investigated associated factors included demographic, socioeconomic, behavioural, health and professional characteristics.

Purpose: To investigate how a group-based lifestyle intervention affects food choices and if the dietary patterns at the end of the intervention are associated with incidence type 2 diabetes (T2D). We also investigated if the possible associations between diet and T2D risk were modified by the genetic risk for T2D.
Methods: Participants in the T2D-GENE study were men with prediabetes aged 50-75 years, body mass index ≥ 25 kg/m, belonging in either low or high genetic risk score (GRS) tertile for T2D.

Background: The MTHFR 677C>T rs1801133 genetic variant, homocysteine (Hcy), cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12), and folic acid (vitamin B9) are factors associated with the physiopathology of multiple sclerosis (MS). This scoping review discussed the relationship between MTHFR 677C>T rs1801133 variant, Hcy, vitamin B12, and folate levels with the susceptibility and pathophysiology of MS.
Methods: PubMed/US National Library of Medicine/USA database were used to search for cross-sectional, case-control, systematic reviews, and meta-analysis studies published in Portuguese and English, from 1990 to 2025.

Varietal mixtures are a promising agro-ecological approach to stabilizing yields by reducing diseases. The effects of mixtures stem from modifications of epidemiological processes and underestimated plant-plant interactions, which could explain some of the paradoxical observations made in the field. However, the role of plant-plant interactions in modifying bread wheat and durum wheat susceptibility to Septoria tritici blotch remains to be elucidated.

Stress engineering is an effective way to tune the performance of semiconductors, which has been verified in the work of inorganic and organic single-crystal semiconductors. However, due to the limitations of the vapor-phase growth preparation conditions, the deposited polycrystalline organic semiconductors are more susceptible to residual stress. Therefore, it is of great research significance to develop a low-cost stress engineering applicable to vapor-deposited semiconductors.
