The sp. strain R82 genome is described as representative of a novel candidate species within cluster 1, as indicated by average nucleotide identity (ANI) analyses, with its closest relatives being Frankia nodulisporulans AgTrs and strains Ag45/Mut15 and AgPM24 (86% identity).

Introduction: The envelope glycoprotein (Env) of HIV-1 Transmitted/Founder (T/F) viruses in subtypes B and C carries distinct genetic signatures that enhance transmission fitness, augment infectivity and immune evasion. However, there is limited data on such signatures in T/F subtypes A1, D and A1D recombinants that predominate East Africa's HIV epidemic.
Methods: We used phylogenetically corrected approaches to detect distinct genetic signatures by comparing 44 contemporary HIV-1 T/F Envs with 229 historical Envs of the same subtype in East Africa.

In a previous study, mutants with enhanced ciprofloxacin resistance (Cip) were selected from J53/pMG252 carrying Strain J53 Cip 8-2 showed an increase in the copy number and transcription level of We sequenced the plasmids on Illumina and MinION platforms. Parental plasmid pMG252 and plasmid pMG252A from strain J53 Cip 8-2 were almost identical, except for the region containing that in pMG252A contained 4 additional copies of the Δ-IS region.

Chlorophylls (Chls) are modified tetrapyrrole molecules, essential for photosynthesis. These pigments possess an isocyclic E ring formed by the Mg-protoporphyrin IX monomethylester cyclase (MgPME-cyclase). We assessed the effects of altering seven highly conserved residues within Ycf54, which is required for MgPME-cyclase activity in the cyanobacterium strains harbouring the Ycf54 alterations D39A, F40A and R82A were blocked to varying degrees at the MgPME-cyclase step, whereas the A9G mutation reduced Ycf54 levels by ∼75%.

The fungicidal effects of secondary metabolites produced by a strain of Penicillium expansum (R82) in culture filtrate and in a double petri dish assay were tested against one isolate each of Botrytis cinerea, Colletotrichum acutatum, and Monilinia laxa and six isolates of P. expansum, revealing inhibitory activity against every pathogen tested. The characterization of volatile organic compounds released by the R82 strain was performed by solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatographic techniques, and several compounds were detected, one of them identified as phenethyl alcohol (PEA).
