Background: Navigation and robotics are important tools in the spine surgeon's armamentarium and use of these tools requires placement of a reference frame. The posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS) is a commonly used site for reference frame placement, due to its location away from the surgical corridor and its ability to provide solid fixation. Placement of a reference frame requires not only familiarity with proper technique, but also command of the relevant anatomy.
Observations: Cadaveric analysis demonstrates a significant difference in PSIS location in males versus females, and additionally provides average thickness for accurate placement.
Lessons: In this technical note, the authors describe the precise technique for PSIS frame placement in addition to relevant anatomy and offer solutions to commonly encountered problems.

Purpose: Develop a musculoskeletal-environment interaction model to reconstruct the dynamic-interaction process in skiing.
Methods: This study established a skier-ski-snow interaction (SSSI) model that integrated a 3D full-body musculoskeletal model, a flexible ski model, a ski boot model, a ski-snow contact model, and an air resistance model. An experimental method was developed to collect kinematic and kinetic data using IMUs, GPS, and plantar pressure measurement insoles, which were cost-effective and capable of capturing motion in large-scale field conditions.

The porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is an endemic disease in pork-producing regions of the world, and its control remains poor. Rapid identification of PRRSV-1 and PRRSV-2 species is of great importance for molecular epidemiological surveillance of the virus. The objective of this study was the molecular characterization of the ORF5 gene that synthesizes glycosylated protein 5 (GP5) from PRRS virus detected in pig farms in Lima, Perú.

Segmental longitudinal strain (SLS) of the left ventricle (LV) is an important prognostic indicator for evaluating regional LV dysfunction, in particular for diagnosing and managing myocardial ischemia. Current techniques for strain estimation require significant manual intervention and expertise, limiting their efficiency and making them too resource-intensive for monitoring purposes. This study introduces the first automated pipeline, autoStrain, for SLS estimation in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) using deep learning (DL) methods for motion estimation.

This fifth article in the series presenting reference values for nutrients in human milk describes minerals. The Mothers, Infants and Lactation Quality (MILQ) and Early-MILQ studies collected human milk samples throughout the first 8.5 mo of lactation in 1242 well-nourished women in Bangladesh, Brazil, Denmark, and The Gambia.

When patients experience peripheral vestibular or certain central disorders causing dizziness or vertigo, this is sometimes associated with experiencing also disrupted spatial orientation, which may be accentuated by exposure to a distorted visual environment. This study explores the impact of sensorimotor factors and sex on spatial orientation in sitting and standing positions. In the Rod-and-Frame test, the participant views a rod - with and without a surrounding tilted frame - and is assigned to align the rod vertically or horizontally.
