A universal method for modeling and characterizing non-circular particles is developed. The -point correlation functions ( = 1, 2 and 3) are efficiently computed with a GPU parallel computing procedure. An algorithm for dynamic packing of impenetrable non-circular particles is developed based on the fast estimation of overlap information using a one-point correlation function. The packing algorithm is independent of particle shape and proved to be reliable by examples of polygons and super-ellipses. In addition, penetrable packings are generated in an efficient and precise way. Using a two-point correlation function, these non-circular packs are accurately characterized and compared in terms of features such as penetrable and impenetrable, packing fraction and particle shape. In addition, three-point correlation functions are also illustrated and discussed.

Secondary metabolites are important bioactive compounds for diet and medicine. This study optimizes the extraction of hydroethanolic herbal extracts using an EDGE (Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction) system, evaluates their antioxidant capacity, and analyzes correlations among antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and individual compounds. A Doehlert matrix design was used to optimize extraction, having temperature and time as independent variables, and total phenolic content (mg GAE/g) as the response, quantified via the Folin-Ciocalteu method.

Background: Organizational virtuousness and just culture, which both foster justice, honesty, and trust, have a major impact on positive work environments in the healthcare industry. Strengthening nurses' emotional engagement and vocational commitment requires these components. With an emphasis on the mediating function of just culture, this study attempts to investigate the relationship between organizational virtuousness and nurses' vocational commitment.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is characterized by excessive worry and physical symptoms of prolonged anxiety. Patients with subclinical GAD-states (sub-GAD) do not fulfill the diagnostic criteria of GAD, but they often show a disease burden similar to GAD, and the subclinical state may turn into a full syndrome. Neuroinflammation may contribute to changes in brain structures in sub-GAD, but direct evidence remains lacking.

The complex interplay between circulating metabolites and immune responses, which is pivotal to disease pathophysiology, remains poorly understood and understudied in systematic research. Here, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the immune response and circulating metabolome in two Western European cohorts (534 and 324 healthy individuals) and one from sub-Saharan Africa (323 healthy donors). At the metabolic level, our analysis revealed sex-specific differences in the correlation between phosphatidylcholine and cytokine responses following ex vivo stimulation.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is characterized by pathological motivation to consume alcohol and cognitive inflexibility, leading to excessive alcohol seeking and use. In this study, we investigated the molecular correlates of impaired extinction of alcohol seeking during forced abstinence using a mouse model of AUD in the automated IntelliCage social system. This model distinguished AUD-prone and AUD-resistant animals based on the presence of ≥2 or <2 criteria of AUD, respectively.
