Introduction: Oculopalatal tremor (OPT) is a late manifestation of a Guillain-Mollaret triangle lesion. Memantine has been shown to improve nystagmus in OPT, but its long-term efficacy and putative distinct effects on each plane of nystagmus and on associated phenomena (e.g., gravity perception) are largely unknown.
Methods: We conducted a 6-month open-label study to evaluate the effect of memantine in OPT patients. Baseline (visit 1), 2 (visit 2), and 6 months (visit 3) assessments included video-oculography, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), visual function questionnaire (VFQ25), palatal tremor frequency, and subjective visual vertical (SVV). Memantine was titrated to 20 mg per day and stopped after 6 months.
Results: We included six patients (5 females; mean age 68.5+/-9.7). At visit 2, nystagmus improved >50% only along the horizontal plane in two patients, while worsening >50% along the vertical and horizontal planes in 4 and 1 patients, respectively. At visit 3, previous improvement of nystagmus along the horizontal plane in two patients was not sustained, and it further worsened >50% along the vertical plane in 4. The mean vertical velocity and amplitude of nystagmus in the left eye significantly worsened from visit 2 to visit 3 ( = 0.028). Throughout the study, nystagmus frequency remained unchanged ( = 0.074), BCVA improved in both eyes ( = 0.047, = 0.017), SVV progression was unpredictable ( = 0.513), and the mean VFQ-25 score ( = 0.223) and mean palatal frequency remained unchanged.
Conclusion: The long-term use of memantine 20 mg per day in OPT produced a modest and only transient improvement in nystagmus, predominantly along the horizontal plane. Visual acuity improved, albeit without relevant changes in vision-related quality of life.

Limited long-term 3-dimensional (3D) studies exist evaluating risk factors for condylar resorption following orthognathic surgery. Our aim was to evaluate patient demographics, clinical and radiographic characteristics, and orthognathic surgical effects on long-term postoperative condylar volume and height, and horizontal skeletal stability, using a 3D approach. Analysis of clinical data and cone-beam computed tomography before, and approximately two weeks and five years after surgery was carried out on 50 subjects (17 male, 33 female), mean (range) age 25.

Quantitative 3-dimensional data on the zygomatic cutaneous ligament (ZCL) are scarce, hindering nerve-sparing planning in midface procedures. Acoustic particle motion is the primary cue for fish hearing and a vector quantity that contains polarization information (including directionality) relevant to the directional hearing abilities of fishes. Polarization metrics, including ellipse orientation angle, ellipticity angle, and degree of polarization, have been recently applied to describe particle motion polarization in physical acoustical oceanography studies and have yet to be applied to in situ biological signals. This study harnessed data from a compact orthogonal hydrophone array deployed on the seafloor offshore of Florida (part of the Atlantic Deepwater Ecosystem Observatory Network) to investigate particle motion polarization properties of unidentified acoustic fish signals relative to ambient and ship noise.

Purpose: Simulations suggest that displacement of rectus extraocular muscle pulleys in superior oblique (SO) palsy accounts for incomitant strabismus patterns even without postulating SO contractile weakness. We asked how rectus extraocular muscle pulleys reorient during head tilt in SO palsy.
Methods: In 13 subjects with unilateral SO palsy, supine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in 2-mm-thick quasi-coronal planes in target-controlled central gaze was repeated in both lateral decubitus positions equivalent to 90° head tilts.

Anatomic Considerations: Key anatomical distinctions in the male face, including denser subcutaneous tissue, increased vascularity, prominent subplatysmal structures, and horizontally oriented SMAS-platysma continuity, require surgical planning that respects and preserves masculine facial definition.
