Article Abstract

Scope: Intestinal dysbiosis has been reported to play an important role in the pathogenesis of various diseases, including chronic kidney disease (CKD). Here, to evaluate whether probiotic supplements can have protective effects against kidney injury in an animal model of CKD is aimed.

Methods And Results: An animal model of CKD is established by feeding C57BL/6 mice a diet containing 0.2% adenine. These model mice are administered Lactobacillus acidophilus KBL409 daily for 4 weeks. Features of adenine-induce CKD (Ade-CKD) mice, such as prominent kidney fibrosis and higher levels of serum creatinine and albuminuria are improved by administration of KBL409. Ade-CKD mice also exhibit a disrupted intestinal barrier and elevate levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine. These changes are attenuated by KBL409. Administration of KBL409 significantly reduces macrophage infiltration and promotes a switch to the M2 macrophage phenotype and increasing regulatory T cells. Notably, the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway is activated in the kidneys of Ade-CKD and decreases by KBL409. In primary kidney tubular epithelial cells treated with p-cresyl sulfate, short-chain fatty acids significantly increase M2 macrophage polarization factors and decrease profibrotic markers.

Conclusions: These results demonstrate that supplementation with the probiotic KBL409 has beneficial immunomodulating effects and protects against kidney injury.

The current work aimed to investigate the effects of fermentation of , , and on the physicochemical, electronic sensory evaluation, and flavour characteristics of heat-sterilized tomato juice (HTJ). The results indicated that LAB fermentation significantly decreased the pH, sucrose, and glucose, and lactic acid was increased. E-nose and tongue analyses revealed that the response to organic sulfides, terpenoids, and sourness increased after LAB fermentation HS-SPME-GC-MS and OAV revealed that heat-sterilization resulted a significant loss of aroma compounds (38.

Unlabelled: Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation has been shown to improve the nutritional and functional activity of grains. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in physicochemical properties, antioxidant activity, hypoglycaemic activity and metabolites of maize juice after fermentation with two species of Lactobacillus and . The non-targeted metabolomics analysis based on UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS metabolomics method was performed to reveal the metabolic mechanism of corn juice.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate the toxicity of triclosan in the Danio rerio model and mammalian cells, as well as to assess its antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity against selected bacterial pathogens.

Methods: Triclosan toxicity was assessed in Danio rerio embryos in accordance with OECD Test Guideline 236: Fish Embryo Acute Toxicity (FET) Test. Cytotoxicity was evaluated in vitro using the MTT assay on human dermal fibroblasts (BJ) and rat cardiomyoblasts (H9c2).

Objectives: The gut-brain axis has emerged as a promising avenue for understanding the bidirectional communication between the gut microbiota and the central nervous system. This study investigated the potential impact of probiotics, Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA-5), Lactobacillus paracasei (L. casei 431), and Bifidobacterium lactis (BB-12), as well as their combination, on dental pulp pain management and cognitive functions.
