The fatigue properties of metals resulting from Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) is critically important for safety-critical applications. Here, the fatigue life of Grade 5 Ti6Al4V from Electron Beam PBF was investigated with respect to several build and component design parameters using a design of experiments (DOE). Part size (i.e., diameter), part proximity, and part location within the build envelope were considered. Overall, metal in the as-built condition (i.e., no post-process machining) exhibited a significantly lower fatigue life than the machined surface condition. In both conditions, the fatigue life decreased significantly with the decreasing part diameter and increasing radial distance; height was not a significant effect in the machined condition. Whereas the surface topography served as the origin of failure for the as-built condition, the internal lack of fusion (LOF) defects, exposed surface LOF defects, and rogue defects served as the origins for the machined condition. Porosity parameters including size, location, and morphology were determined by X-ray micro-computed tomography (XCT) and introduced within regression models for fatigue life prediction. The greatest resistance to fatigue failure is obtained when parts are placed near the center of the build plane to minimize the detrimental porosity. Machining can improve the fatigue life, but only if performed to a depth that minimizes the underlying porosity.

ancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease and often presents at an advanced stage with no curative options. The disease is often characterized by rapid progression, limited or short-lived responsiveness to standard therapies, and a profound impact on patients' quality of life. Despite advances in targeted therapies and immunotherapy, curative outcomes remain elusive for the majority of patients with advanced or high-grade disease with a 5-year survival rate of less than 10%.

Tiredness may be associated with increased or decreased sexual experience and behavior while fatigue seems to have a predominantly negative effect, although evidence is scarce. This ecological momentary assessment study is the first to examine associations between tiredness or fatigue and concurrent / subsequent sexual desire or sexual arousal and previous / subsequent sexual activity in daily life, including event-based measurements and considering gender differences. Healthy heterosexual individuals (n = 63), aged between 19 and 32 years and in a relationship, indicated their tiredness, general fatigue, physical fatigue, sexual desire, and sexual arousal on an iPod seven times daily over 14 days, and any event-based occurrences of sexual activity.

Introduction: This study evaluated the fatigue resistance of two Nickel-titanium (NiTi) engine-driven file systems with identical geometries and different heat treatments tested under static and dynamic conditions in simulated root canals.
Methods: Cyclic fatigue tests were conducted using ProTaper Universal (PTU) and ProTaper Gold (PTG) instruments with a curvature of 35° and a radius of 6 mm in both static and dynamic modes at body temperature using a customized cyclic fatigue testing device. The number of cycles to fracture (NCF) was recorded.

Acoustic transducers require films that demonstrate both toughness and fatigue resistance, presenting notable challenges when achieved through conventional nanoscale reinforcing strategies. Here, we found that the rib structure of a cicada's tymbal exhibits exceptional toughness and fatigue resistance, attributed to its unique architecture composed of alternating soft and stiff polymer layers. Inspired by this rib structure, we developed a robust artificial rib film (ARF) using a nanoconfined crystallization strategy that involves the deposition of soft polyethylene oxide and stiff phenol formaldehyde.

Background: Depression and anxiety are common in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and worsen clinical outcomes. Psycho-behavioural interventions offer a promising, non-pharmacological approach. However, most evidence comes from people with kidney failure with distinct treatment needs, limiting relevance to earlier stages of CKD, where timely support may enhance self-management and slow progression.
