Article Abstract

(1) Background: In the development of new and more effective anticancer approaches, combined treatments appear of great interest. Combination therapy could be of importance in the management of glioblastoma (GBM), a lethal malignancy that accounts for 42% of cancer of the central nervous system, with a median survival of 15 months. This study aimed to verify the activity on a glioblastoma cancer cell line of one of the most active compounds of a novel series of tubulin polymerization inhibitors based on the 1-(3',4',5'-trimethoxyphenyl)-2-aryl-1-imidazole scaffold, used in combination with a miRNA inhibitor molecule targeting the oncomiRNA miR-10b-5p. This microRNA was selected in consideration of the role of miR-10b-5p on the onset and progression of glioblastoma. (2) Methods: Apoptosis was analyzed by Annexin-V and Caspase 3/7 assays, efficacy of the anti-miR-10b-5p was assessed by determining the miR-10b-5p content by RT-qPCR. (3) Results: The results obtained show that a "combination therapy" performed by combining the use of an anti-miR-10b-5p and a 1-(3',4',5'-trimethoxyphenyl)-2-aryl-1-imidazole derivative is an encouraging strategy to boost the efficacy of anticancer therapies and at the same time to reduce side effects.

Spirulina is considered a superfood due to its chlorophylls. Two new methods for the determination of chlorophylls and β-carotene were developed here, one based on in-tube solid-phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled online to nanoliquid chromatography (nanoLC) with diode array detection (DAD), and the other on ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). A protocol to extract the pigments from spirulina was proposed using ethanol (1.

Phase I dose escalation trials in oncology generally aim to find the maximum tolerated dose. However, with the advent of molecular-targeted therapies and antibody drug conjugates, dose-limiting toxicities are less frequently observed, giving rise to the concept of optimal biological dose (OBD), which considers both efficacy and toxicity. The estimand framework presented in the addendum of the ICH E9(R1) guidelines strengthens the dialogue between different stakeholders by bringing in greater clarity in the clinical trial objectives and by providing alignment between the targeted estimand under consideration and the statistical analysis methods.

Institute of Plant Protection, University of Belgrade-Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Phytopathology, Nemanjina 6, Belgrade , Serbia, 11080.

The pathogenic soilborne and postharvest fungus , as newly reported pathogen in Serbia, caused significant disease symptoms on carrot roots and seedlings in inoculation assays. In October 2023, machine-washed and cold-stored carrot roots showed symptoms of black rot of patches and abundant sporulation. The influence of the postharvest treatment of machine washing was confirmed by additional sampling at the production site.

Caliciopsis pinea is the ascomycete plant pathogen that causes caliciopsis canker disease on North American Pinus strobus (eastern white pine). Infections result in downgrading of lumber due to canker formation and overall loss of vigor in P. strobus, which is a critical cover species throughout its native range.
