The purpose of the present paper is to review the progress in recognition and implementation of shared decision-making (SDM) practice in the Polish health care system. In Poland, equal access to health care is a constitutional right. The foundations for SDM practice within the Polish health care system are laid in legislation regulating the professions of doctors and dentists, as well as patients' rights, which assert the duty of physicians to provide clear and patient-adjusted information on diagnostic and treatment options, health status and prognosis before obtaining consent. Over recent years, patient organizations have gained voice in the institutional setting. At the same time participatory decision-making at the individual patient level remains uneven, with a considerable variety between health care settings or even physicians. The challenges related to the implementation of SDM practices include low health care funding and staff shortages, which limit both the scope of available choices and consultation time. Fragmentation of care and inadequate standardization constitute additional barriers to the elaboration and sharing of good SDM practices.

The Hippo pathway and its transcription co-activator YAP play a critical role in the regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis and the control of organ size. In the past several years, YAP has been found to be expressed in various human cancers, however, its expression in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) remains unstudied. In this report, we found that YAP was overexpressed in human NPC tissues, and its expression was also significantly higher in five NPC cell lines when compared with the nasopharyngeal epithelial cell line NP69 (P < 0.

The ability to navigate through one's environment is crucial for maintaining independence in daily life and depends on complex cognitive and motor functions that are vulnerable to decline in persons with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). While previous research suggests a role for mobility in the physical act of navigation, it remains unclear to what extent mobility impairment and perceptions of mobility constraints may modify wayfinding and the recall of environment details in support of successful navigation. Therefore, this study examined the relations among clinical mobility function, concern about falling, and recall of environment details in a clinical sample of MS.

Individuals with mental health difficulties in Iceland can be detained in police cells as a last resource place of safety when psychiatrists consider patients unsuitable for admission to a ward, for example, due to being under the influence of substances or being too violent. We aimed to investigate if detainment in a police cell affected symptoms of mental illnesses, and subsequently if police cells are an appropriate place of safety for patients in Iceland. We used a mixed methods approach utilising administrative records of detainees' visible symptoms of mental illnesses and ten semi-structured interviews with mental health professionals and police sergeants.

The Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA) authorizes the compulsory detention and treatment of people with mental disorders who are perceived to pose a risk to themselves or to others. Since its enactment, there have been concerns that the coercive powers of the Act have been disproportionately used for Black people with mental disorders. This disproportionate impact of the MHA on Black people is most clearly seen in the excessive use of Community Treatment Orders (CTOs).
