Historically, identifying carcinogens has relied primarily on tumor studies in rodents, which require enormous resources in both money and time. models have been developed for predicting rodent carcinogens but have not yet found general regulatory acceptance, in part due to the lack of a generally accepted protocol for performing such an assessment as well as limitations in predictive performance and scope. There remains a need for additional, improved carcinogenicity models, especially ones that are more human-relevant, for use in research and regulatory decision-making. As part of an international effort to develop toxicological protocols, a consortium of toxicologists, computational scientists, and regulatory scientists across several industries and governmental agencies evaluated the extent to which models exist for each of the recently defined 10 key characteristics (KCs) of carcinogens. This position paper summarizes the current status of tools for the assessment of each KC and identifies the data gaps that need to be addressed before a comprehensive carcinogenicity protocol can be developed for regulatory use.

It is helpful for diagnostic purposes to improve our current knowledge of gut development and serum biochemistry in young piglets. This study investigated serum biochemistry, and gut site-specific patterns of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and expression of genes related to barrier function, innate immune response, antioxidative status and sensing of fatty and bile acids in suckling and newly weaned piglets. The experiment consisted of two replicate batches with 10 litters each.

Purpose Of Review: Plasma metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) enables detection of microbial cell-free deoxyribonucleic acid (mcfDNA) in blood without the need for culture or organism-specific primers. Here, we review clinical performance, methodological variability, and real-world application of plasma mNGS for infectious disease diagnosis in immunocompromised hosts (ICHs).
Recent Findings: Plasma mNGS has rapidly gained attention as a novel diagnostic tool for infections in ICHs, offering broad-range pathogen detection from a noninvasive blood sample.

Polymer particles, including synthetic polymers such as poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) (P(S-co-DVB)) beads, have been widely used as enzymatic supports and drug carriers. In this sense, it is important to understand the stabilization or degradation of such polymer matrices under specific chemical and enzymatic media. For this reason, the present work aims to evaluate the current status and prospects of treatments of PMMA and P(S-co-DVB) particles intended for biotechnological and biomedical applications under basic, acidic, and enzymatic environments.

Introduction: Cigarette smoking negatively affects lung cancer prognosis. Incorporating smoking history into stage-stratified survival analyses may improve prognostication.
Methods: Using the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer ninth edition NSCLC database, we evaluated the association between smoking status at diagnosis and overall survival (OS) using Kaplan-Meier plots and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression models adjusted for age, region, sex, histologic type, performance status, and TNM stage.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the potential contribution of subtle peripheral auditory dysfunction to listening difficulties (LiD) using a threshold-equalizing noise (TEN) test and distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE). We hypothesized that a subset of patients with LiD have undetectable peripheral auditory dysfunction.
Design: This case-control study included 61 patients (12 to 53 years old; male/female, 18/43) in the LiD group and 22 volunteers (12 to 59 years old; male/female, 10/12) in the control group.
