Article Abstract

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has led to over 4.9 million deaths as of October 2021. One of the main challenges of creating vaccines, treatment, or diagnostic tools for the virus is its mutations and emerging variants. A couple of variants were declared as more virulent and infectious than others. Some approaches were used as nomenclature for SARS-CoV-2 variants and lineages. One of the most used is the Pangolin nomenclature. In our study, we enrolled 35 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 patients and sequenced the viral RNA in their samples. We also aimed to highlight the hallmark mutations in the most frequent lineage. We identified a seven-mutation signature for the SARS-CoV-2 lineage, detected in 56 countries and an emerging lineage in Egypt. In addition, we identified one mutation which was highly negatively correlated with the lineage. On the other hand, we found no significant correlation between our clinical outcomes and the lineage. In conclusion, the lineage is an emerging SARS-CoV-2 variant that needs more investigation regarding its clinical outcomes compared to other strains. Our study paves the way for easier diagnosis of variants of concern using mutation signatures.

Management of Transvenous Leads in Patients With Iatrogenic Lead Perforation.

J Cardiovasc Electrophysiol

September 2025

Cardiac Electrophysiology Section, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Introduction: Iatrogenic lead perforation is a rare but serious complication of cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation. Evidence on percutaneous management of subacute or delayed cases remains limited.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 38 patients treated for iatrogenic lead perforation between January 2012 and October 2024.

Background: Survivors of critical illness frequently face physical, cognitive and psychological impairments after intensive care. Sensorimotor impairments potentially have a negative impact on participation. However, comprehensive understanding of sensorimotor recovery and participation in survivors of critical illness is limited.

Nuclear receptors (NRs) are a superfamily of ligand-activated transcription factors that regulate gene expression in response to metabolic, hormonal, and environmental signals. These receptors play a critical role in metabolic homeostasis, inflammation, immune function, and disease pathogenesis, positioning them as key therapeutic targets. This review explores the mechanistic roles of NRs such as PPARs, FXR, LXR, and thyroid hormone receptors (THRs) in regulating lipid and glucose metabolism, energy expenditure, cardiovascular health, and neurodegeneration.

Background: Disruptive behavior and emotional problems - especially anxiety - are common in children and frequently co-occur. However, the role of co-occurring emotional problems in disruptive behavior intervention response is unclear. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of an indicated prevention program in children with disruptive behavior problems with vs.
