Article Abstract

Objectives: (GM) pericarp extract recognizes for relieving skin disorders. It becomes a household fruit juice due to its high concentration of antioxidant compounds, including phenolic and -mangostin. The purpose of this study was to optimize the conditions of Ultrasonic-Microwave Assisted Extraction (UMAE) of GM pericarp.

Methods: GM pericarp was extracted by UMAE and conventional decoction extraction. UMAE was created in nine different individuals and combined ultrasonic and microwave power. The amount of phenolic compound, "caffeic acid, ferulic acid", -mangostin, and total phenolic content (TPC) were compared. The optimized parameters were particle size of grounded raw material, microwave power, and ultrasonic power during water extraction.

Results: The optimized UMAE conditions combined 200 W microwave power and 200 W ultrasonic power to extract raw material grounded to 22.6 μm diameter particles (p≤0.05). The synergistic effect of ultrasonic and microwave-assisted extraction significantly (p≤0.05) impacted on the TPC, the yield of caffeic acid, ferulic acid, and -mangostin.

Conclusions: Overall, the synergistic effect of ultrasonic and microwave extraction resulted in a significantly higher amount of bioactive compounds when compared to conventional decoction extraction (p≤0.001). These results demonstrated the advantages of UMAE for preparing GM pericarp extract for the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) often progresses to critical illness requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission, yet contemporary data on outcomes, prognostic factors, and therapeutic approaches are scattered.

Objective: To synthesize recent evidence on causes of ICU admission, mortality predictors, and management strategies in adult SLE.

Methods: A PRISMA-compliant search of PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane Library (inception-31 December 2024) retrieved studies enrolling adults (≥18 years) with confirmed SLE treated in ICUs.

Background: The optimal management of adult native knee septic arthritis remains controversial. While open arthrotomy and arthroscopic lavage are established surgical strategies, repeated joint aspiration has emerged as a less invasive alternative. This network meta-analysis (NMA) aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of these three interventions.

Objective: This study seeks to assess the temporal patterns of osteoarthritis (OA) in Mexico from 1990 to 2021 using the Global Burden of Disease 2021 study and to project future trends over the next 19 years.

Methods: Age-standardized rate data for the prevalence (age-standardized prevalence rate [ASPR]), incidence (age-standardized incidence rate [ASIR]), disability-adjusted life year, and years lived with disability of OA in Mexico were extracted. Temporal trends were assessed using the average annual percentage change as a statistical measure.

A sensitive and robust analytical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEOs) in textiles. The method utilizes ultra-high-performance supercritical fluid chromatography with photodiode array detection (UHPSFC-PDA) to assess monomer proportions across varying polymerization degrees, followed by quantitation via tandem mass spectrometry (UHPSFC-MS/MS) in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. Under optimized conditions, NPEOs (n = 2-39) were separated within 7 min on a BEH C column using compressed CO₂ and methanol as the mobile phase.

Inflammation is a condition that affects a large percentage of the population, rendering the search for alternative treatments urgent. Medicinal plant such as Brugmansia arborea has been employed in traditional medicine, it is used to alleviate menstrual pain, acne, promote wound healing, and ease joint pain, headaches, and other ailments. Some alkaloids (mainly atropine, scopolamine, and nor-hyoscyamine) have been described.
