Article Abstract

Oxidative stress is a pathological condition occurring due to an imbalance between the oxidants and antioxidant defense systems in the body. Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (NRF2), encoded by the gene , is the master regulator of phase II antioxidant enzymes that protect against oxidative stress and inflammation. NRF2/ARE signaling has been considered as a promising target against oxidative stress-mediated diseases like diabetes, fibrosis, neurotoxicity, and cancer. The consumption of dietary phytochemicals acts as an effective modulator of NRF2/ARE in various acute and chronic diseases. In the present review, we discussed the role of NRF2 in diabetes, Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), cancer, and atherosclerosis. Additionally, we discussed the phytochemicals like curcumin, quercetin, resveratrol, epigallocatechin gallate, apigenin, sulforaphane, and ursolic acid that have effectively modified NRF2 signaling and prevented various diseases in both in vitro and in vivo models. Based on the literature, it is clear that dietary phytochemicals can prevent diseases by (1) blocking oxidative stress-inhibiting inflammatory mediators through inhibiting Keap1 or activating expression and its downstream targets in the nucleus, including HO-1, SOD, and CAT; (2) regulating NRF2 signaling by various kinases like GSK3beta, PI3/AKT, and MAPK; and (3) modifying epigenetic modulation, such as methylation, at the NRF2 promoter region; however, further investigation into other upstream signaling molecules like NRF2 and the effect of phytochemicals on them still need to be investigated in the near future.

Tobacco smoke is the main risk factor for the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Despite current therapies alleviate symptoms there are limitations in the efficacy of treatments to curb its cardiovascular morbidities, particularly vascular dysfunction and the development of pulmonary hypertension. Our previous studies demonstrate that cigarette smoke directly contributes to pulmonary arterial dysfunction.

Objective: Dipeptidyl peptidase 9 (DPP9) not only regulates tumor progression and drug sensitivity, but also modifies oxidative stress mediated ferroptosis. This study aimed to investigate the effect of DPP9 inhibition on sorafenib sensitivity and its interaction with ferroptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: Two HCC cell lines (Huh7 and MHCC-97H) were transfected with DPP9 siRNA, followed by detection of reactive oxygen species (ROS), ferrous iron (Fe), malondialdehyde (MDA), and ferroptosis-related proteins, and treated by 0-16 μM sorafenib to calculate half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC) for sensitivity assessment.

Globally, the South Asian Cocktail (SAC), a substance of abuse, is becoming popular. The effects of SAC on male fertility are unknown; however, its component pharmaceuticals, such as codeine, rohypnol, and promethazine, have been linked to male infertility. Thus, this study assessed SAC's influence and putative mechanisms on male fertility among SAC consumers.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the efficacy of electroacupuncture in treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) accompanied by depressive symptoms. The potential mechanisms of electroacupuncture are also investigated, particularly in terms of its modulation of oxidative stress and NLRP3 inflammasomes to influence microglial activation and neuroinflammation, thereby alleviating depressive symptoms.

Material And Methods: The inflammatory bowel disease model in mice was induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), and the mice were randomly assigned to the CON group, DSS group, DSS+EA group, and DSS+ MCC950 group.

Exogenous GABA mitigates flower senescence in L. by modulating biochemical and molecular aspects.

Unlabelled: Oxidative stress mediated by reactive oxygen species and the concomitant antioxidant defenses orchestrate the senescence trajectory in ethylene-insensitive flowers. This investigation delineates the potential of γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) in ameliorating oxidative damage and impeding senescence in detached scapes of , an ethylene-insensitive flower system. The delayed senescence and enhanced scape performance were attributed to the upregulation of antioxidant enzyme activities, including superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase, which were elevated by 52.
