Little is known about the biomarkers of mortality in SARS-CoV-2-infected patients without a previous diagnosis of diabetes. Thus, this study aimed to assess the fibrinogen-to-platelet ratio (FPR) and compare its predictive value with the main biomarkers for COVID-19 mortality, such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), leukocyte glucose index (LGI), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)/lymphocyte ratio. This retrospective cohort study in a population of Mexico included 70 non-diabetic patients with COVID-19 from 1 May 2020 to 30 September 2020.

Background: Binary endpoints measured at two timepoints-such as pre- and post-treatment-are common in biomedical and healthcare research. The Generalized Bivariate Bernoulli Model (GBBM) provides a specialized framework for analyzing such bivariate binary data, allowing for formal tests of covariate-dependent associations conditional on baseline outcomes. Despite its potential utility, the GBBM remains underutilized due to the lack of direct implementation in standard statistical software.

Background: Mortality after liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is mainly driven by HCC recurrence. We sought to determine whether post-recurrence survival (PRS) has improved during the last 2 decades.
Methods: Using the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, we included all patients who underwent LT for HCC between 2003 and 2020 and experienced HCC recurrence.

Background: Acinetobacter seifertii, a recently identified member of the Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-Acinetobacter baumannii (Acb) complex, has emerged as a cause of severe human infections. It is closely related to Acinetobacter nosocomialis, a major pathogen of the Acb complex. Here, we aimed to explore the clinical and molecular differences between these two species.

Objective: Middle-aged and older adults living with HIV in the Western Pacific Region (WPR) are experiencing accelerated aging and a rising burden of non-communicable disease (NCD)-related comorbidities. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the burden of major NCDs-measured by prevalence, incidence, and mortality-among people living with HIV(PLWH) aged 40 years and older, in comparison to their HIV-negative counterparts.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across Medline (1966-), Embase (1974-), Cochrane Library (1996-), Epistemonikos (established in 2012, with retrospective coverage), and Web of Science (1900-) to identify relevant studies published up to May 9, 2025.
