Article Abstract

Cysticercosis is considered a common healthcare problem, especially in developing countries. The invasion of muscle by the larval stage of the pork tapeworm, (i.e., ) usually occurs in association with CNS cysts, concurrent muscle cysts, or both. Isolated skeletal muscle involvement is rare and presents with nonspecific symptoms resulting in a diagnostic dilemma for the treating physician. We report a 20-year-old female with isolated cysticercosis of right sternocleidomastoid muscle presenting as a right neck swelling and mild pain for 4 months, whose diagnosis was established by ultrasonography (USG) and computed tomogram (CT) scan. She was managed conservatively with oral albendazole therapy for four weeks resulting in complete resolution.

Taenia crassiceps (Zeder, 1800), a zoonotic cestode with a wide geographical distribution, utilises canids as definitive hosts and small rodents as intermediate hosts. However, accidental infections in non-human primates, particularly in captive lemurs, have been increasingly documented. In this case report, we describe the first documented case of cysticercosis caused by the larval stage of T.

Coyaima is a town in the department of Tolima, Colombia, that was prioritized in a pilot program under Colombia's National Plan for the Control of the Taeniasis/Cysticercosis Complex, focusing on this neglected health issue. The project engaged local indigenous communities, promoting education and outreach within the One Health framework. The study included 444 randomly selected volunteers, who filled a Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) survey on the taeniasis/cysticercosis complex.

We present a case of subarachnoid neurocysticercosis caused by Taenia crassiceps in an elderly woman in Slovenia with no underlying disease or immunosuppressive treatment. The parasite was identified by 12S rDNA PCR and sequencing. Despite prolonged therapy with albendazole and praziquantel, the disease recurred after treatment was discontinued.

Taenia ovis is an economically significant cestode affecting sheep. Its larval stage, Cysticercus ovis, causes ovine cysticercosis, leading to substantial economic losses due to carcass condemnation and reduced meat quality. This study utilized a comprehensive approach to investigate the prevalence, phylogenetic characterization, immune response, oxidative stress markers, and histopathological changes associated with T.

Background: Taenia solium (T. solium), a neglected zoonotic tapeworm transmitted between humans and pigs, is a leading cause of acquired epilepsy in endemic areas where it is propagated by poor sanitation and pig husbandry practices. The World Health Organisation (WHO) NTD roadmap 2021-2030, recommended that targeted control interventions need to be initiated, and intensified in T.
