Article Abstract

Applications on electromagnetic waves in the field of biotelemetry have increased in the latest years, being used to prevent, diagnose, and treatment of several diseases. In this context, biotelemetry allows minimally invasive monitoring of the physiologic, improving comfort and patient care and significantly reducing hospital costs. Aiming to assist the mineral bone density classification, through a radio frequency signal (RF), for a later diagnosis of osteoporosis, Osseus was proposed in 2018. This equipment is a combination of the application of techniques and concepts of several areas such as software, electrical, electronic, computational, and biomedical engineering, developed at a low cost, with easy access to the population, and non-invasive. However, when placed on evaluation, potential improvements were identified to increase the stability of Osseus operation. It is proposed the implementation of improvements in the antennas used by Osseus, aiming its miniaturization, improvement in the reception of the RF signal, and better stability of the equipment's operation. Then, two antennas were built, one of which was used as a project for the second, which is an array. The array showed significant improvements in the radiation parameters relevant to the application, being a candidate to replace the antennas currently in use at Osseus.

Challenges and complications of trans-osseous carpal tenodesis for scapholunate ligament tears.

J Hand Microsurg

November 2025

Hand Surgeon, Private Practice, C. de Serrano, 58, Salamanca, 28001, Madrid, Spain.

Scapholunate (SL) instability remains a challenging condition with significant possibility of implications for wrist function and long-term outcomes. This review explores the limitations and complications of current trans-osseous scapholunate ligament (SLL) reconstruction techniques, focusing on isometric reconstruction challenges and complications, for example osteonecrosis, tunnel fractures, graft failure, and iatrogenic extrinsic ligament injuries. Through biomechanical analysis and clinical case reviews, we demonstrate that the conventional three-ligament tenodesis (3LT) scaphoid tunnel has high risk of resulting in a non-isometric volar scapho-trapezial (vST) ligament reconstruction, potentially exacerbating carpal instability.

Objective: To provide an up-to-date review summarizing the pathophysiology and management of the most common orbital and intracranial complications of acute rhinosinusitis (ARS).

Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using the following search criteria in the PubMed database: "sinusitis" AND "complications" AND ("orbital" OR "intracranial" OR "osseous" OR "Pott's puffy tumor"). Titles and abstracts were screened for relevance.

Pediatric Bone Tumors.

Surg Pathol Clin

September 2025

Department of Pathology, Boston Children's Hospital, Boston, MA, USA. Electronic address:

Pediatric bone lesions encompass a diverse spectrum of conditions, including benign neoplasms, cystic lesions, fibro-osseous lesions, and malignant tumors. This review highlights key diagnostic and management principles for commonly encountered non-sarcomatous lesions such as chondroblastoma, giant cell tumor, and aneurysmal bone cyst. Emphasis is placed on integrating clinical presentation, radiographic imaging, histopathological examination, and molecular diagnostics, such as H3.

Acute rhinosinusitis is a common diagnosis within the military, resulting in high healthcare utilization. Barotrauma caused by "sinus squeeze" can increase morbidity associated with rhinosinusitis and can lead to complications such as Pott's Puffy Tumor (PPT). Pott's Puffy Tumor is a rare but serious complication of bacterial rhinosinusitis that is typically treated with intravenous antibiotics and surgical drainage.

Aggressive Orbital Dedifferentiated Liposarcoma With Osseus Components in a Young Woman.

Cancer Diagn Progn

May 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan.

Background/aim: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLS) is a rare but aggressive subtype of liposarcoma that arises in soft tissues. In orbital liposarcoma, malignant transformation from well-differentiated to DDLS typically takes at least a year. We herein report a case of a young female with an aggressive DDLS, that developed from an orbital lipoma within one year.
