In this work, 37 growth promoters were quantitatively determined in bovine urine using a QuEChERS approach with acetonitrile, NaCl, and MgSO:PSA for sample extraction. The analytes were separated and detected by liquid chromatography coupled to hybrid high-resolution mass spectrometry. The method was validated in accordance with the Decision 657/2002/EC guidelines, in which recoveries fell within the range 84-113%, relative standard varied between 2 and 32%, and detection limit between 0.1 and 2.5 μg L. An adequate performance was evidenced during a proficiency test evaluation, and the developed method has been applied to routine analysis of growth promoters in Brazil. A highlight is the easiness of sample extraction combined with a quantitative determination of forbidden drugs using high-resolution mass spectrometry, which enables retrospective analysis in a surveillance perspective.

Small glaciers situated in high mountainous areas are experiencing notable declines, characterized by unprecedented rates of ice loss in recent years. This study investigates the recent changes in surface elevation and mass loss occurring between 2010 and 2023 within the Alamkouh Glacier over three subperiods, one of the biggest glaciers in Iran and the Middle East. These assessments are derived from a combination of high-resolution LiDAR data in 2010 (with a spatial resolution of 20 cm) and multi-temporal surveys conducted using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in 2018, 2020, and 2023 (with spatial resolutions varied from 10 to 20 cm).

Membrane-protein quality control in Escherichia coli involves coordinated actions of the AAA+ protease FtsH, the insertase YidC and the regulatory complex HflKC. These systems maintain proteostasis by facilitating membrane-protein insertion, folding and degradation. To gain structural insights into a putative complex formed by FtsH and YidC, we performed single-particle cryogenic electron microscopy on detergent-solubilized membrane samples, from which FtsH and YidC were purified using Ni-NTA affinity and size-exclusion chromatography.

Plastic pollution in marine environments poses ecological risks, in part because plastic debris can release hazardous substances, such as metal-based additives. While microplastics have received considerable attention as vectors of contaminants, less is known about larger macroplastics and their role in the spatial and temporal redistribution of substances. In this study, pristine, store-bought plastic items and macroplastics recovered from the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre (NPSG) were analysed using Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to identify polymer types, and bulk acid digestion followed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) for total metal quantification.

Molecular hybridization of isoniazid with hydrophobic aromatic moieties represents a promising strategy for the development of novel anti-tubercular therapeutics. In this study, a series of hybrid molecules (5a-i) was synthesized by linking isoniazid with aromatic sulfonate esters via a hydrazone bridge. Molecular docking studies revealed that these compounds interact effectively with the catalytic triad of the InhA enzyme (Y158, F149, and K165), suggesting their potential as InhA inhibitors.
