Experimental characterization of solid-liquid mixing for a high shear wet granulation process in a twin-screw granulator (TSG) is very challenging. This is due to the opacity of the multiphase system and high-speed processing. In this study, discrete element method (DEM) based simulations are performed for a short quasi-two-dimensional simulation domain, incorporating models for liquid bridge formation, rupture, and the effect of the bridges on inter-particular forces. Based on the knowledge gained from these simulations, the kneading section of a twin-screw wet granulation process was simulated. The time evolution of particle flow and liquid distribution between particles, leading to the formation of agglomerates, was analyzed. The study showed that agglomeration is a rather delayed process that takes place once the free liquid on the particle surface is well distributed.

This study investigates the physicochemical, microbiological, and microstructural changes in soft wheat grain during germination under varying moisture conditions: moderately dry, moist, and wet. Pre-harvest sprouting can severely compromise grain quality and usability; however, understanding germination-induced changes offers insights into potential utilization strategies. Physical parameters-including thousand-kernel weight, test weight, and falling number-showed strong correlation with germination time, decreasing by 8.

Cockroach gut houses mostly anaerobic microbial communities. Most of these eukaryotes live as endocommensal rather as pathogens. The morphological diversity of the eukaryotic microorganisms present in the intestinal tract of American cockroach, were investigated.

Background: Osteoporosis (OP), an age-related skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone mass and deteriorated microarchitecture, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a metabolic condition primarily driven by obesity and insulin resistance (with age as a modifying factor), were investigated in this study. We aimed to elucidate the correlation between OP and NAFLD-associated lipid metabolism, and determine the therapeutic effects and molecular mechanisms of Kangshujiangu granules (KSJG) on NAFLD pathogenesis.
Methods: Clinical study: 261 patients were stratified by OP T-scores into OP and non-OP groups.

Curcumin is widely recognized for its various pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor activities. Nevertheless, the development of curcumin as a therapeutic agent is impeded by its limited oral bioavailability, which stems from its chemical instability, poor aqueous solubility, and rapid degradation. This study aimed to develop granule formulations incorporating poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-grafted hyaluronic acid or HA-g-pNIPAM to enhance dissolution and protect curcumin from degradation.
