Liquid-crystalline orders are ubiquitous in membranes and could significantly affect the elastic properties of the self-assembled bilayers. Calculating the free energy of bilayer membranes with different geometries and fitting them to their theoretical expressions allow us to extract the elastic moduli, such as the bending modulus and Gaussian modulus. However, this procedure is time-consuming for liquid-crystalline bilayers. In paper reports a novel method to calculate the elastic moduli of the self-assembled liquid-crystalline bilayers within the self-consistent field theory framework. Based on the asymptotic expansion method, we derive the analytical expression of the elastic moduli, which reduces the computational cost significantly. Numerical simulations illustrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed method.

This study aimed to examine the impact of composite enzymatic treatment on the physicochemical properties of oat milk, which would provide an effective strategy to improve the stability of plant-based milk. Oat milks treated with individual α-amylase or in combination with the protein glutaminase were produced. The result indicated that composite enzyme treatment significantly changed the physicochemical properties and significantly improved the stability of oat milk.

Lymph nodes are highly specialized immune organs that orchestrate the adaptive immune response. In the lymph nodes, naïve B and T lymphocytes encounter cognate antigens, sparking their activation and response to foreign substances. Lymph nodes grow in response to an immune challenge, at least in part to accommodate increased numbers of infiltrating and proliferating B and T lymphocytes.

Strain-induced crystallisation in elastomers markedly increases their elastic moduli and rupture resistance. However, the mechanisms underlying this self-reinforcement in filled elastomers remain unclear owing to the nanoscale nature of the involved processes. Herein, isoprene rubber with/without silica nanoparticles is stretched to strains of >5 and concomitantly imaged via in situ transmission electron microscopy.

This study proposes a method for producing quaternized chitosan and genipin cross-linked hydrogels with adjustable mechanical properties to promote cell proliferation and, in turn, enhance skin repair. In this method, tannic acid at varying volume fractions is added to the quaternized chitosan and base-catalyzed crosslinked polymer dispersion system, forming hydrogels with different elastic moduli. The mechanical properties of the hydrogels are characterized using a rheometer and a universal testing machine.

Different polyurethanes (PURs) and silicone for potential use in particle accelerators and detectors have been characterized in the uncured state, after curing, and after exposure to ionizing irradiation in ambient air and in liquid helium. The viscosity evolution during processing was measured with a rheometer. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and Shore A hardness measurements were applied to detect irradiation-induced crosslinking and chain scission effects.
