Vaccines that stimulate systemic and mucosal immunity to a level required to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection and transmission are an unmet need. Highly protective hepatitis B and human papillomavirus nanoparticle vaccines highlight the potential of multivalent nanoparticle vaccine platforms to provide enhanced immunity. Here, we report the construction and characterization of self-assembling 60-subunit icosahedral nanoparticle SARS-CoV-2 vaccines using the bacterial enzyme lumazine synthase (LuS).

Point-of-care Lung ultrasound assessment of positional changes in COVID-19 ARDS in intensive care: A case report and review of the literature.

Physiol Rep

August 2025

Division of Intensive and Critical Care, Department of Internal Medicine, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Istanbul, Turkey.

Prone positioning is a cornerstone in the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), including COVID-19-related ARDS. However, alternative positioning strategies such as reverse Trendelenburg position (RTP) have received limited attention. The objective is to evaluate the physiological effects of RTP on lung aeration using lung ultrasound (LUS) in a patient with severe COVID-19 ARDS.

Anticipated response to prone position assessed with lung ultrasound.

Medicina (B Aires)

August 2025

Departamento de Kinesiología y Cuidados Respiratorios , Sanatorio Clínica Modelo de Morón, Morón, Buenos Aires, Argentina. E-mail:

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) presents a challenge for clinicians due to its high morbidity and mortality. Prone position (PP) has been used as a therapeutic strategy in ARDS patients, demonstrating benefits in respiratory mechanics and gas exchange. In SARSCoV-2-related ARDS (C-ARDS), 80% of patients require PP to alleviate refractory hypoxemia.

Purpose: To estimate the diagnostic accuracy of nurse-performed lung ultrasound (LUS) for detecting pulmonary congestion in adults with acute kidney injury (AKI) and to relate ultrasound findings to the defining characteristics of the NANDA-I nursing diagnosis excess fluid volume.

Methods: In this prospective exploratory diagnostic accuracy study, conducted between October 2022 and September 2023, a critical care nurse performed bedside LUS, following the bedside lung ultrasound in emergency protocol, in a convenience sample of 64 intensive care unit patients with AKI in a general hospital in Brazil. Pulmonary congestion was defined as ≥3 B-lines in ≥2 intercostal spaces per hemithorax.

Purpose: To evaluate the correlation between the degree of pulmonary compromise, as assessed by lung ultrasound, and the activation of the coagulation cascade in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 pneumonia.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 47 adult patients with confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia. Each patient underwent a systematic 12-zone LUS exam to calculate a total Lung Ultrasound Score (LUS score).
