Introduction: Vaccinations have had a transformative impact on public health, reducing the incidence of many infectious diseases and increasing survival. However, there remains uncertainty about the potential of vaccines to trigger autoimmune diseases such as the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM). Myositis after vaccination (MAV) is a rare clinical entity, but given immunogenetic associations with other adverse events, we explored genetic risk factors, particularly human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles and GM/KM immunoglobulin allotypes, that may predispose individuals to develop MAV.

Objectives: To define the association between prior SARS-CoV-2 infection and incidence of stroke.
Methods: We conducted a case-control study combining the Qatar stroke database and the Qatar National COVID-19 databases. Cases with stroke diagnosis were matched 1:1 on demographics, comorbidities, and vaccination status to controls who tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 during the same week.

Background: Respiratory viruses, such as influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2, cause severe infections of the respiratory system. Cohort studies and clinical observations indicate that patients with severe influenza A virus (IAV) infections are at an increased risk of developing an ischemic stroke event. However, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive.

Background: A subset of COVID-19 patients develops post-COVID-19 condition (PCC). This condition results in disability in numerous areas of patients' lives and a reduced health-related quality of life, with societal impact including work absences and increased healthcare utilization. There is a scarcity of models predicting PCC, especially those considering the severity of the initial severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and incorporating long-term follow-up data.
