The Global South has emerged as a beacon of innovation in scholarly publishing, championing equitable and community-driven models of knowledge dissemination. Here we explore various initiatives originating from Latin America, Africa, and Asia, highlighting platforms that are free for both readers and authors. These initiatives also promote multilingualism, public funding, and non-profit, scholarly-led governance structures.

Camelid heavy-chain only antibodies consist of two heavy chains and single variable domains (VHHs), which retain antigen-binding functionality even when isolated. The term "nanobody" is now more generally used for describing small, single-domain antibodies. Several antibody generative models have been developed for the sequence and structure co-design of the complementarity-determining regions (CDRs) based on the binding interface with a target antigen.

Dermatomyositis (DM) is an infrequently encountered idiopathic inflammatory myopathy distinguished by distinctive cutaneous manifestations and/or progressive muscle weakness. This review provides an updated exploration of DM, emphasizing cutaneous features, etiopathogenesis, and therapeutic implications. DM presents a heterogeneous spectrum, ranging from classic forms involving both skin and muscle to clinically amyopathic DM, which lacks significant muscle involvement but carries risks like interstitial lung disease (ILD) and malignancy.

Illuminating the Invisible: Green Fluorescent Protein as a Beacon for Antibiotic-Induced Phage Activity in .

Antibiotics (Basel)

July 2025

Division of Infection Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, SE-22184 Lund, Sweden.

Antibiotic resistance presents an urgent public health threat. By developing a streamlined and effective method for studying bacteriophage induction, this research marks a step further in understanding how antibiotic-resistant genes might spread across different environments. This knowledge is essential for creating strategies to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly from a One Health perspective.

High-temperature streamer biofilm communities (SBCs) are often dominated by Aquificota, which can comprise over 90% of the microbial population in shallow water channels, such as those found at Mammoth hot springs of Yellowstone National Park and the Rehai hot springs in China. This study examines SBCs from the Dusun Tua (DT) hot spring in Malaysia (75 °C, pH 7.6), where Aquificota accounted for only ~ 35% of the total amplicon sequence variants.
