The involvement of claudins in urothelial carcinogenesis is controversial. In this study, we analyzed Claudin-4 immunoexpression in 50 cases of bladder urothelial carcinomas depending on the main prognostic parameters of the lesions represented by the tumor grade and tumor extension. Claudin-4 immunoexpression scores were significantly higher in high-grade urothelial carcinomas and in tumors with invasion in muscularis propria. The results obtained indicate the involvement of Claudin-4 in the progression of urothelial bladder carcinomas.

Non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC) are the most common histological forms of lung cancer, lesions that by their incidence and associated mortality constitute a health problem worldwide. Alteration of the expression of claudins with a role in the stability of cell adhesion constitutes one of the complex biomolecular mechanisms involved in tumor initiation and progression. In this study, Claudin-4 immunoexpression was investigated in 52 cases of NSCLC in relation to epidemiological and histopathological prognostic parameters of the lesions.

Objective: Cytological examination of pleural effusion is minimally invasive and low risk but faces challenges due to the lack of architectural features, low cell counts, and overlapping characteristics among reactive mesothelial cells (RMCs), carcinoma cells, and malignant epithelioid mesothelioma (MPM) cells. The aim of this was study to detect the diagnostic accuracy of the expression of HEG1 and Claudin-4 in distinguishing malignant mesothelioma from lung adenocarcinoma in pleural effusion.
Material And Methods: The present study was carried out on 84 cases of pleural effusion.

Methotrexate (MTX)-induced gastrointestinal mucositis is a common adverse effect characterized by redox imbalance and overproduction of inflammatory mediators that perturb intestinal integrity. Currently, there is no definitive treatment for this condition and its prevention is still far beyond comprehension. Because of its pleiotropic pharmacological actions, we aimed to explore the potential mechanisms through which cilostazol (CILO) can protect against MTX-induced intestinal mucositis.

Claudins are a family of essential tight junction proteins, abnormally expressed in human carcinomas. The studies that indicated the involvement of claudins in tumor biology and progression suggest the possibility of their utility as markers for diagnosis or prognosis, but also as possible targets for therapy. We investigated 50 prostate adenocarcinomas (PAs) for which we followed the expression of Claudins -3, -4 and -7 in relation to International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) grades.

Disturbance of the intercellular adhesion system represents a basic biomolecular mechanism in gastric carcinogenesis. Claudin 4 is member of a protein family involved in maintaining homeostasis and epithelial integrity. In this study, we analyzed the immunoexpression of Claudin 4 in 58 cases of gastric adenocarcinomas, in relation to the main histopathological parameters of aggressiveness, the reactions obtained being evaluated through the intensity of the reactions and the number of positive cells.
