Background: Total knee (TKA) and hip arthroplasty (THA) effectively treat end-stage osteoarthritis by restoring mobility and reducing pain; however, it is unclear how balance and steadiness compare between TKA and THA patients. This study utilized wearable technology to objectively compare functional recovery between TKA and THA patients.
Methods: Two Hundred Nine patients underwent TKA (n = 152) or THA (n = 57) and were followed for 1 year.

The treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) has undergone a significant evolution in recent years, shifting toward more selective strategies that balance oncological outcomes with quality of life (QoL) preservation. Total neoadjuvant treatment (TNT) has improved local control and reduced distant metastases, but its long-term toxicities have sparked growing interest in treatment de-escalation strategies aimed at minimizing adverse effects while maintaining efficacy. This review focuses on the therapeutic advancements for LARC, analysing both established standards and emerging innovations.

Background: Low daily step counts have traditionally been associated with cardiovascular death risk, suggesting other objective real-world gait measures may be complementary or better predictors. This study examined the relationship between real-world walking speed, quality, and walking bout distributions, measured using a wrist-worn device, and cardiovascular death in a large cohort of older people.
Methods: Participants aged 60to78 years from the UK Biobank who wore a wrist-worn device were included in this population-based observational cohort study.
