Article Abstract

Metabolic pathways differ across species but are expected to be similar within a species. We discovered two functional, incompatible versions of the galactose pathway in We identified a three-locus genetic interaction for growth in galactose, and used precisely engineered alleles to show that it arises from variation in the galactose utilization genes , , and phosphoglucomutase (), and that the reference allele of is incompatible with the alternative alleles of the other genes. Multiloci balancing selection has maintained the two incompatible versions of the pathway for millions of years. Strains with alternative alleles are found primarily in galactose-rich dairy environments, and they grow faster in galactose but slower in glucose, revealing a trade-off on which balancing selection may have acted.

As a core tool for analyzing the distribution of proteins, organelle interactions, and localization of disease pathology markers, it has irreplaceable value, especially in synapse research, pathogen-host interaction mechanism, and tumor microenvironment analysis. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine through a Delphi process a list of outcomes measures for clinicians to use when assessing individuals with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS).

Methods: A three-phase Delphi process was conducted by the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Taskforce, including two online surveys, two virtual meetings, and three in-person consensus meetings at the ISSLS annual conferences (2023-2025). Participants evaluated and ranked outcome measures for LSS, with final endorsement requiring > 66% agreement.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk of selected adverse outcomes for older adults with a new episode of neck pain (NP) receiving chiropractic care compared to those receiving primary medical care with Prescription Drug Therapy (PDT) or primary care without medication.

Methods: Through analysis of Medicare claims data, we designed a retrospective cohort study including 291 604 patients with a new office visit for NP in 2019. We developed 3 mutually exclusive exposure groups: the Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy (CMT) group received spinal manipulative therapy from a chiropractor with no primary care visits; the PDT group visited primary care and filled an analgesic prescription within 7 days without chiropractic care, and the Primary Care Only (PCO) group visited primary care without chiropractic care or analgesic prescriptions.
