The picosecond dynamics of excited charge carriers in the silicon substrate of THz metamaterial antennas was studied at different wavelengths. Time-resolved THz pump-THz probe spectroscopy was performed with light from a tunable free electron laser in the 9.3-16.7 THz frequency range using fluences of 2-12 J/m. Depending on the excitation wavelength with respect to the resonance center, transient transmission increase, decrease, or a combination of both was observed. The transient transmission changes can be explained by local electric field enhancement, which induces impact ionization in the silicon substrate, increasing the local number of charge carriers by several orders of magnitude, and their subsequent diffusion and recombination. The studied metamaterials can be integrated with common semiconductor devices and can potentially be used in sensing applications and THz energy harvesting.

This systematic review investigates the influence of fenestration size and prosthesis diameter on hearing outcomes in patients undergoing primary stapedotomy for otosclerosis. A total of 11 studies were included, comprising randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and one cross-sectional study, with follow-up durations ranging from three months to one year. Fenestration sizes most commonly ranged from 0.

Intratympanic (IT) delivery of dexamethasone (DEX) is widely used for treating inner ear disorders; however, its therapeutic efficacy is limited by poor permeability of the round window membrane (RWM). This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of three pharmacological agents-histamine (HIS), 3% hypertonic saline (3% HS), and sodium caprate (SC)-as adjuvants for enhancing RWM permeability and improving IT-DEX delivery in a murine model. Following IT administration of each permeability enhancer followed by DEX injection, perilymph DEX concentrations were measured using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography, and DEX receptor expression in the organ of Corti was assessed by immunofluorescence.

Wolbachia, an endosymbiotic bacterium infecting a wide array of invertebrates, has gained attention for its potential in vector control. Its capacity to colonise host populations primarily relies on vertical transmission and reproductive manipulation in arthropods. This endosymbiont is additionally mutualistic in some hosts, across several Wolbachia supergroups; notably, in nematodes and, as recently demonstrated, in planthoppers and bedbugs, it functions as an essential nutritional symbiont by providing vitamins to its host.

Background & Aims: Suppressing toxic Ca accumulation in pancreatic acinar cells (PACs) is the central therapeutic strategy of acute pancreatitis (AP). Store-operated Ca entry (SOCE) represents an important mechanism promoting Ca overload, which remains incompletely understood in AP. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 6 (TRPV6) is an ion channel highly selective to Ca, and its role in PACs or AP onset remains largely unknown.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics and trends of notified multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in Wenzhou City, China, from 2014 to 2023, with a focus on differences between migrant and local populations among reported TB cases.
Methods: This was a facility-based retrospective cohort study that included all bacteriologically confirmed TB cases notified between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2023 in the Tuberculosis Information Management System (TBIMS) of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the hospital's laboratory information system, provided they had available phenotypic drug-susceptibility testing (pDST) results. Pearson's chi-square test was used to compare drug-resistance rates between groups, the trend chi-square test was applied to assess temporal changes, and a Sankey diagram was employed to illustrate the origins and intra-city distribution of MDR-TB among the migrant population.
