Estimating the trophic position of predators in food webs using stable isotopes requires establishing a 'baseline'; typically served by bivalves or snails. However, the frequent absence of such organisms in lakes leaves researchers in a difficult situation. Here we test the hypothesis that trophic position (TP) of largemouth bass (LB) in lakes can be estimated from δN of benthic organic material (BOM) in littoral surficial sediment. δN as a function of δN was significant across 51 lakes with an R of 0.84, supporting our hypothesis. In a subset of six lakes, the mean TP did not differ significantly when calculated using baselines of δN in BOM, mussels (UN), gastropods (SN), or from a stable isotope mixing model. In a subset of 26 lakes, mean TP calculated from δN and δN baselines were not significantly different, but TP calculated using δN was not significantly correlated with TP calculated using δN. Although δN should not be used interchangeably with δN as a baseline for estimating TP, δN can be useful as a separate baseline where estimates of fish TP are needed in all study lakes given that mussels are frequently absent and BOM is always available for collection.

This study aims to develop and validate software for the automatic measurement of the task-transfer function (TTF) based on the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Task Group (TG) 233. The software consists of two main stages: automatic placement of the region of interest (ROI) within circular objects of the phantoms and calculating the TTF. The software was developed on four CT phantom types: computational phantom, ACR 464 CT phantom, AAPM CT phantom, and Catphan 604 phantom.

Purpose To compare the performance of volumetric radiomic parenchymal pattern analysis from three-dimensional (3D) digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) images with that of two-dimensional (2D) digital mammography (DM) and 2D sections from DBT in assessing breast cancer risk relative to breast density measurements. Materials and Methods This was a retrospective matched case-control study among individuals who underwent concurrent DM and DBT screening from March 2011 through December 2014. The Cancer Phenomics Toolkit was used to calculate radiomic features from craniocaudal and mediolateral oblique views in all study patients, matched on race and age, for various experimental settings, including image resolution and window size.

Introduction: A 2018 study found high epilepsy prevalence and mortality in the Maridi onchocerciasis focus (South Sudan). From 2019 onward, onchocerciasis elimination measures were strengthened in Maridi, and in 2020, an epilepsy clinic was established at Maridi County Hospital with free provision of anti-seizure medication. We investigated the changes in epilepsy-related mortality following these interventions.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate head circumference (HC) in patients with melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) deficiency, the most common cause of monogenetic obesity.
Methods: Patients with (likely) pathogenic MC4R variants were included. HC, height, and weight were measured, and BMI and standard deviation score (SDS) were calculated.
