Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability globally, with survivors at high risk of recurrent stroke, cardiovascular events, and post-stroke dementia. Statins, while widely used for their lipid-lowering effects, also possess pleiotropic properties, including anti-inflammatory, endothelial-stabilizing, and neuroprotective actions, which may offer added benefit in AIS management. This article synthesizes emerging evidence on statins' dual mechanisms of action and evaluates their role in reducing recurrence, improving survival, and mitigating cognitive decline.

Background: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) represents an aggressive cancer type associated with poor prognosis, often treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) using cisplatin-based regimens. However, cisplatin resistance limits therapeutic efficacy, necessitating a deeper understanding of resistance mechanisms. L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1) plays a crucial role in amino acid uptake and is linked to cancer cell survival through activation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway.

Background: Mitral valve surgery is a widely performed intervention for the treatment of various mitral valve pathologies. Postoperative conduction disturbances may necessitate permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation. This study aims to identify and quantify patient-related, cardiovascular, procedural risk factors, and risk score-based predictors of PPM implantation following mitral valve surgery.

Introduction: Midlife hypertension is associated with dementia risk, although uncertainties remain regarding its association with subtypes and regarding the effect of pregnancy-related hypertension on dementia risk.
Methods: In the Million Women Study, 1,363,457 women (mean age 57) were asked about current treatment for hypertension and hypertension in pregnancy and were followed for first hospital record with any mention of dementia. Cox regression yielded hazard ratios (HRs) adjusted for socioeconomic, lifestyle, and metabolic factors.
