Article Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of gold and silver nanoparticles on the activity of antioxidant enzymes (ascorbate peroxidase (APX), superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (POX), and catalase (CAT)), the free radical scavenging capacity, and the total polyphenol capacity of lavender ( Mill.) cultivar "Munstead" propagated in vitro. In the experiment, fragments of lavender plants were cultivated in vitro on medium with the addition of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 mg∙dm of AgNPs or AuNPs (particle sizes 24.2 ± 2.4 and 27.5 ± 4.8 nm, respectively). It was found that the nanoparticles increase the activity of the antioxidant enzymes APX and SOD; however, the reaction depends on the NP concentration. The highest APX activity is found in plants propagated on media with 2 and 5 mg∙dm of AgNPs. AuNPs significantly increase the APX activity when added to media with a concentration of 10 mg∙dm. The highest SOD activity is recorded at 2 and 5 mg∙dm AgNP and AuNP concentrations. The addition of higher concentrations of nanoparticles to culture media results in a decrease in the APX and SOD activity. The addition of AuNPs to culture media at concentrations from 2 to 50 mg∙dm increases the POX activity in comparison to its activity when AgNPs are added to the culture media. No significant influence of NPs on the increase in CAT activity was demonstrated. AgNPs and AuNPs increased the free radical scavenging capacity (ABTS). The addition of NPs at concentrations of 2 and 5 mg∙dm increased the production of polyphenols; however, in lower concentrations it decreased their content in lavender tissues.

Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, Departamento de Química Orgánica, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, X5000HUA Córdoba, Argentina.

In this study, we demonstrate a novel, environmentally friendly approach to synthesizing gold (AuNPs) and silver (AgNPs) nanoparticles (NPs) using industrial lactic acid as a reducing agent and amphiphilic β-cyclodextrins modified with dodecenyl succinic anhydride (β-CDMod) as stabilizing ligands. The synthesized NPs, AuNPs@CDModDS1, AuNPs@CDModDS5, and AgNPs@CDModDS5, exhibit stable surface plasmon resonance band characteristics and remain colloidally stable in water for up to three weeks. Transmission electron microscopy revealed spherical NPs with varying sizes: AuNPs@CDModDS1 (6.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is a Gram-negative pathogen with advanced antibiotic resistance and biofilm-forming machineries that cause delayed infections (especially in human chronic wounds). Novel therapeutics such as antibiofilm agents, antimicrobial peptides and nanoformulated creams are being developed to treat P.

The emergence of diseases attributable to foodborne pathogens poses a significant threat to human health. Pyrococcus furiosus Argonaute (PfAgo), a novel member of programmable nucleases, is repurposed for molecular detection owing to its programmable and sequence-specific nucleic acid cleaving capabilities. In this work, a triple cascade amplification strategy termed as PASS was developed for pathogenic bacteria biosensing.

One of the major challenges in diagnosing various diseases, including neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as carcinogenesis, is detecting unlabeled neurotransmitters. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and surface-enhanced infrared spectroscopy (SEIRA) are promising methods for neurotransmitter biosensing and bioimaging. These methods are unique in that they are non-destructive and can identify molecular fingerprints.

The ultrasound-assisted green synthesis of gold (AuNPs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from Schinus terebinthifolius extracts delivered stable colloids whose physicochemical properties depend on raw-material preprocessing. Ground sonicated extracts (GSE) produced narrower size distributions and more negative zeta potentials (-19.6 mV for AuNPs, -23.
