Article Abstract

Background: Whilst modern awake intraoperative mapping has been widely accepted and implemented in the last decades in neuro-oncology, sparse reports have been published on the safety and efficiency of this approach in epilepsy surgery.

Method: This article reports four cases with different locations of epileptogenic zones as examples of possible safe and efficient resections.

Result: The results of the resections on seizure control were Engel 1 (no disabling seizures) in all cases and no patient experienced significant neurological deficits.

Discussion: The discussion focuses on aspects of the future of epilepsy surgery in a hodotopical paradigm.

Insights into the mysteries of dreaming and waking conscious experience can be gained by considering fundamental concepts in memory research. To support this assertion, we first provide an overview of the conscious/nonconscious distinction in memory research and then summarize the memory theory of consciousness (MToC). According to the MToC, the brain system responsible for explicit memory is also responsible for all our conscious experiences-perceptions, thoughts, memories, imaginings, and dreams.

Estimating time and making predictions is integral to our experience of the world. Given the importance of timing to most behaviors, disruptions in temporal processing and timed performance are reported in a number of neuropsychiatric disorders such as Schizophrenia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fragile X Syndrome (FXS), and Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Symptoms that implicitly include disruption in timing are atypical turn-taking during social interactions, unusual verbal intonations, poor reading, speech and language skills, inattention, delays in learning, and difficulties making predictions.

Objective: The Neuropixels probe, a high-density silicon microelectrode array, has been a transformative tool for extracellular recording of large numbers of single neurons across animal models. Traditional tungsten microelectrodes available for clinical neurophysiology typically only record 1-2 neurons at a given time. Purpose: Endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) is a minimally invasive alternative to open release, offering faster recovery and reduced postoperative discomfort. The Arthrex NanoScopic ECTR system, a novel single-use device using chip-on-tip digital imaging and designed for use under local anesthesia without arthroscopic equipment, may further streamline care and expand surgical access.

Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of the first 50 consecutive ECTR procedures performed using the Arthrex NanoScopic system by a single hand fellowship-trained hand surgeon.
