The underrepresentation of women and minority students in STEMM graduate programs remain a significant challenge, compounded by biases in traditional admissions processes and barriers to effective mentoring and retention. This study develops and validates the Quinn Miller Competency Assessment (QMCA), a tool designed to assess emotional and social intelligence (ESI) competencies crucial for STEMM graduate student success. The QMCA was created through an iterative process involving literature review, expert consultations, and empirical studies.

Introduction: Mentorship is integral to surgical training, yet access remains inequitable. Ethnic minority (EM) students, those from low-income households, and first-generation medical students face persistent barriers that hinder progression into competitive specialties like Plastic Surgery (PS). To address this, we piloted INSPIRE, a first-in-kind identity-concordant mentorship programme for UK undergraduates.

Objective: The American Psychological Association (APA) defines early career (EC) status as occurring in the 10 years following earning a doctorate. As EC pediatric and behavioral health psychologists (ECPP) who work with and conduct research with adolescents and young adults (AYA), we have noted that our own and our peers' experiences during this career phase have mirrored that of our AYA research participants and patients. Namely, no longer scaffolded by training milestones and supervision, yet still often viewed as green, EC psychologists may often feel and be treated like they are experiencing a career-based emerging adulthood.

This case study examines key components of research readiness for Doctoral Universities with High Research Activity (R2) through the lens of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) program. While there are long-standing systems in place for ranking research institutions based on grant expenditures, there is a need to establish methods to evaluate institutions' readiness for externally funded competitive research. Drawing on literature across multiple disciplines and framed in alignment with the RCMI program goals, the authors developed a multidimensional instrument to examine research readiness centered on two primary domains (investigator and institutional readiness).
