A novel stilbene-based salicylhydrazone compound {systematic name: (E)-4,4'-(ethene-1,2-diyl)bis[(N'E)-N'-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)benzohydrazide] dimethyl sulfoxide disolvate, CHNO·2CHOS or L·2DMSO} was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction and luminescence spectroscopy. The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2/c, with half a symmetry-independent L molecule and one dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent molecule in the asymmetric unit. The L molecule adopts an almost planar structure, with a small dihedral angle between the planes of the stilbene and salicylhydrazone groups. There are multiple π-π stacking interactions between adjacent L molecules. The DMSO solvent molecules act as proton donors and acceptors, forming hydrogen bonds of various strengths with the L molecules. In addition, the geometry optimization of a single molecule of L and its luminescence properties either in solution, as a solvated solid or as a desolvated solid were studied. The compound shows an aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect and exhibits switchable luminescence colouration in the solid state by the simple removal or re-addition of the DMSO solvent.

Polar protic and aprotic solvents can effectively simulate the maturation of breast carcinoma cells. Herein, the influence of polar protic solvents (water and ethanol) and aprotic solvents (acetone and DMSO) on the properties of 3-(dimethylaminomethyl)-5-nitroindole (DAMNI) was investigated using density functional theory (DFT) computations. Thermodynamic parameters retrieved from the vibrational analysis indicated that the DAMNI's entropy, heat capacity, and enthalpy increased with rising temperature.

Introduction: Benchtop and animal models have traditionally been used to study the propagation of Onyx Liquid Embolic Systems (Onyx) used in the treatment of brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM). However, such models are costly, do not provide sufficient detail to elucidate how variations in Onyx viscosity alter flow dynamics, and rely on some trial-and-error, resulting in elongated timelines for product development.
Objectives: The goal of this study was to leverage Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to predict the behavior of different Onyx formulations.

Aims: Cardiac tumors are aggressive and asymptomatic in early stages, causing late diagnosis and locoregional metastasis. Currently, the standard of care uses gadolinium-based contrast agents for MRI, and the associated hypersensitivity reactions are a significant concern, such as gadolinium deposition disease. In addition, the proximity of cardiac lesions closer to vital structures complicates surgical interventions.

The short lifespan of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) in vitro poses challenges, as their limited viability restricts functional assays and experimental manipulations. The HL-60 cell line serves as a valuable model for neutrophil-like differentiation, yet the functional relevance of ATRA- and DMSO-induced differentiation remains incompletely understood. In the present study, we aimed to characterize the differentiation potential of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on HL-60 cells and compare their functionality with primary PMNs.

Solvent attenuation of dispersion interactions was quantified using a new class of rigid intramolecular CH-π molecular balances. These balances incorporate small, two-carbon CH donors that minimize solvophobic effects and isolate the dispersion component. Folding energies (Δ ) were measured across eight solvents: cyclohexane, toluene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, acetonitrile, DMSO, and methanol.
