Background: There are several methods of treating massive rotator cuff tears in patients without severe glenohumeral arthritis. Subacromial balloon spacers have emerged as one solution to this problem. Previous studies identified a lasting film in the subacromial space well after the balloon should have dissolved, and there is limited information regarding the biocompatibility and reactivity of the resorbable implant.

Interconvertible and rejuvenated Lewis acidic electrolyte additive for lean electrolyte lithium sulfur batteries.

Nat Commun

July 2025

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, KAIST, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, Republic of Korea.

Realizing practical lithium-sulfur batteries with high energy density requires lean electrolyte design. However, under low electrolyte/sulfur (E/S) ratios, highly concentrated lithium polysulfides in the electrolyte phase limit cycling and capacity. Here, we report that a small amount of Lewis acidic calcium cation in the electrolyte addresses the problems of lean electrolyte lithium-sulfur batteries.

Background: Segmental bone defect is a challenging clinical problem that often requires autologous bone grafting, which has limitations such as donor site morbidity and insufficient supply. Bone tissue engineering aims to create functional bone substitutes that can mimic the properties and processes of native bone. However, the discrepancy between and conditions hinders the successful translation of bone tissue engineering from animal models to human applications.

Background: Suboptimal clinical response (SCR) after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is often attributed to gastric pouch and gastrojejunostomy dilatation. Ring placement, which includes a ring to prevent pouch dilatation, may help reduce SCR. This study compared 3-year outcomes of ring-augmented (rRYGB) versus non-ring-augmented RYGB (nrRYGB).
