Signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) is a member of the STAT family of proteins that serve key roles in the initiation of tumorigenesis and malignant transformation. STAT6 is highly expressed in several types of cancer, including breast, pancreatic, prostate and colorectal cancer. STAT6 transduces signals in response to the binding of interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13 to their receptors and regulates the expression of genes involved in the immune response, cell survival, tumor proliferation and metastasis. Patients with colorectal cancer exhibit high STAT6 activity in the colonic epithelium, and STAT6 expression is associated with lower survival rates, lymph node metastasis, changes in the epithelial barrier function and alterations in the inflammatory response. A number of studies investigating experimental models and cancer cell lines have revealed that STAT6 is associated with tumor growth and development, as well as with increased invasion and metastasis, suggesting that STAT6 inhibition may serve as a novel therapeutic strategy in colon cancer. The present review summarizes the evidence with regard to the implications of STAT6 in cancer biology and the direct and indirect effects on colon tumor transformation. Furthermore, the current treatment strategies targeting the IL-4/IL-13/STAT6 axis in colon cancer are discussed.

Background: Our study represents the first effort in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to identify disparities in the quality of colorectal cancer (CRC) care in Iran.
Methods: We established a collaborative registry program for non-metastatic CRC patients to evaluate survival rates between teaching cancer centers (TCCs) and a high-volume, non-teaching, non-cancer center (NTNC). The study included a diverse patient population and considered various factors such as cancer stage, margin involvement, adherence to guidelines for adjuvant and neoadjuvant treatments, emergency surgeries, socioeconomic status, and risk of surgery.

Prior studies from our laboratory have shown that cancer cells exposed to vitamin D3 exhibited reduced proliferation in breast cancer cells due to the upregulation of p53 and downregulation of cyclin-D1. Furthermore, in mice, our group has demonstrated that administration of 125 µg/kg of vitamin D3 retarded the growth of EAC tumors. But, it is unknown whether vitamin D3 exerts similar anti-cancer effects against cell lines representing carcinomas of the liver, colon and rectum, cervix, and brain.

Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation (280-320 nm) has been recognized as a carcinogen since 1928, leading to sun exposure minimization. However, epidemiological studies suggest that sun exposure correlates with increased life expectancy and reduced incidence of cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers such as colon and endometrial cancer. UVB exposure also influences liver metabolism, protects against hepatocellular lipotoxicity, and affects metabolic health.

Schiff bases containing sulfonyl units are important compounds because of their potential biological properties in the therapeutical field. In this study, three novel ligands (L1, L2, and L3) containing the sulfonyl groups, a derivative of Schiff base, were synthesized, and their molecular structures were characterized by FT-IR, H-NMR, C NMR, and elemental analysis results. The antiproliferative activities of these Schiff base ligands were evaluated against human colon cancer (HT-29 and Caco-2) and mouse fibroblast (L929) cells by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) method.

Background: To compare doses deposited to the liver during right breast radiotherapy with static and dynamic radiotherapy techniques. The second aim was to introduce the liver load index (LLI), a novel index developed to estimate radiation exposure to the liver prior to treatment selection.
Materials And Methods: We prepared radiotherapy treatment plans for ten patients with right breast cancer.
