Article Abstract

In this report, we introduced poly(-vinylpyridine) (PVP, = 2, 4) as an electron-donating stabilizer for small (<2 nm) Au clusters and elucidated how coordinating pyridines affect the physical, optical, chemical, and catalytic properties of Au clusters. Spectroscopic measurements and theoretical calculation suggested the high electron-donating ability of PVP. PVP-stabilized Au clusters improved robustness in aerobic oxidation of alcohols compared to poly(-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)-stabilized ones, while retaining catalytic activities.

Imidazol-2-ylidenes, IPr and IMes, represent by far the most important and widely utilized N-heterocyclic carbenes in organic synthesis and catalysis. Herein, we report the synthesis, catalytic activity, and structural and electronic characterization of ImPyDippDipp and ImPyMesMes, sterically bulky and easily accessible biaryl L-shaped N-heterocyclic carbene analogues of IPr and IMes. These ligands exploit the rigid imidazo-[1,5-]-pyridin-3-ylidene architecture to merge the properties of the biaryl scaffold with the electron-rich characteristics of the carbene center.

Pretreatment technology suffers from drawbacks such as tedious operation, low efficiency, and poor selectivity. Hence, we presented a singly capped cucurbit[7]uril-mediated magnetic solid phase extraction (Q[7]-MagSPE) combined with high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) for multiresidue analysis of 20 pesticides. The Q[7]-MagSPE was constructed by assembling Q[7] onto the gold magnetic nanoparticles (GoldMag) via the reaction between one of the electron-rich carbonyl portals of Q[7] and gold.

The influence of substituent effects plays an important role on the efficiency and regioselectivity toward C─H activation of non-directed arenes. Here, an unprecedented trimetallic synergistic redox catalysis system has been developed to achieve a highly efficient and orthogonal C─H arylation of non-directed arenes with aryl bismuth. Both electron-rich and -deficient aryl bismuth can proceed C─H arylation readily, thus affording an elegant strategy for the synthesis of challenging electron-rich and sterically hindered biaryls by means of gold catalysis.

Carbodiphosphorane as an Electron-Donating Ligand for Gold Nanoclusters.

Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo, 7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0033, Japan.

A variety of organic ligands such as thiolates, phosphines, alkynyls, -heterocyclic carbenes, and halides have been widely used to protect gold nanoclusters (AuNCs). The ligands not only determine the stability and solubility but also affect the physicochemical properties of AuNCs. In this regard, the exploration of new ligands is important to further expand the range of properties.

Distinct Effect of Conjugation Units in Covalent Organic Frameworks on Iodine and Gold Adsorption.

The capture of radioactive iodine and recovery of precious metal gold have become hot research topics in recent years. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) linked by imine bonds are ideal adsorbents for iodine and gold due to their abundance of N sites. The N site as an electron-deficient group has been well-discussed; therefore, in the present work, we explored the effect of its conjugation degree on gold and iodine adsorption by modulating the electron-rich unit.
