Analysis of sequencing data for 143 - and -positive isolates from 13 European national collections and the public domain resulted in the identification of 15 previously undetected multi-country transmission clusters. For 10 clusters, cases had prior travel/hospitalisation history in countries outside of the European Union including Egypt, Iran, Morocco, Russia, Serbia, Tunisia and Turkey. These findings highlight the benefit of European whole genome sequencing-based surveillance and data sharing for control of antimicrobial resistance.

This study investigates the narratives of egg donation (ED) in Taiwan and transnational contexts. Although commercial ED is prohibited in Taiwan, legally fixed compensation remains relatively high (USD 3000). Internationally, ED is a profitable segment of the fertility industry, driving cross-border donor recruitment.

Dengue virus (DENV) is a rapidly evolving arbovirus responsible for significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Understanding its evolutionary trajectory is essential for tracking viral emergence, transmission dynamics, and the factors driving its geographic expansion. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the genetic diversification and phylogenetic pathways of DENV, focusing on serotype evolution and the classification of genetic lineages.

The global emergence of mpox virus (MPXV) and chikungunya virus (CHIKV) has intensified the demand for advanced diagnostic methods. Rapid, sensitive, cost-effective diagnostic methods are crucial for preventing cross-border transmission and early containment of community spread. In this study, we developed a capillary modified Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for the identification of MPXV and CHIKV.

Background: Flood-related waterborne diseases are an acute consequence of natural disasters, primarily due to contamination of drinking water supplies. With climate change driving an increase in extreme weather events, such as floods, the risk of waterborne disease outbreak is expected to rise. This report summarizes an outbreak investigation of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) O26:H11 in the Belgian-Luxembourg following the mid-July 2021 floods.

Background: The interplay between armed conflict and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses significant public health challenges. In Ukraine, conflict-related factors such as medical evacuations, destruction of infrastructure, and displacement have exacerbated the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms, amplifying AMR risks within and beyond national borders.
Methods: This retrospective comparative observational study was conducted at the First Lviv Territorial Medical Union, Western Ukraine's largest health care union.
