Article Abstract

Exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) has been shown to be more effective than corticosteroids in achieving mucosal healing in children with Crohn´s disease (CD) without the adverse effects of these drugs. The aims of this study were to determine the efficacy of EEN in terms of inducing clinical remission in children newly diagnosed with CD, to describe the predictive factors of response to EEN and the need for treatment with biological agents during the first 12 months of the disease. We conducted an observational retrospective multicentre study that included paediatric patients newly diagnosed with CD between 2014-2016 who underwent EEN. Two hundred and twenty-two patients (140 males) from 35 paediatric centres were included, with a mean age at diagnosis of 11.6 ± 2.5 years. The median EEN duration was 8 weeks (IQR 6.6-8.5), and 184 of the patients (83%) achieved clinical remission (weighted paediatric Crohn's Disease activity index [wPCDAI] < 12.5). Faecal calprotectin (FC) levels (μg/g) decreased significantly after EEN (830 [IQR 500-1800] to 256 [IQR 120-585] < 0.0001). Patients with wPCDAI ≤ 57.5, FC < 500 μg/g, CRP >15 mg/L and ileal involvement tended to respond better to EEN. EEN administered for 6-8 weeks is effective for inducing clinical remission. Due to the high response rate in our series, EEN should be used as the first-line therapy in luminal paediatric Crohn's disease regardless of the location of disease and disease activity.

Background: Various media are used to enhance public understanding about diseases. While mobile health apps are widely used, there is little proof for using such apps to raise awareness of skin diseases.

Objective: We intend to develop an app, called DEDIKASI-app, to raise awareness of skin diseases, including leprosy.

Unlabelled: Retinoblastoma is a malignant retinal tumor characterized by an aggressive clinical course, with frequent recurrences and the emergence of new foci even during chemotherapy.

Objective: This study investigated the subpopulation composition of peripheral blood lymphocytes in children with newly diagnosed untreated retinoblastoma.

Material And Methods: A total of 24 children (48 eyes) were examined between December 20, 2023, and September 1, 2024; retinoblastoma was diagnosed in 28 eyes.

Background: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) encompasses diverse clinical phenotypes, primarily characterized by behavioral and/or language dysfunction. A newly characterized variant, semantic behavioral variant FTD (sbvFTD), exhibits predominant right temporal atrophy with features bridging behavioral variant FTD (bvFTD) and semantic variant primary progressive aphasia (svPPA). This study investigates the longitudinal structural MRI correlates of these FTD variants, focusing on cortical and subcortical structural damage to aid differential diagnosis and prognosis.

Background: Emotion recognition from electroencephalography (EEG) can play a pivotal role in the advancement of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). Recent developments in deep learning, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and hybrid models, have significantly enhanced interest in this field. However, standard convolutional layers often conflate characteristics across various brain rhythms, complicating the identification of distinctive features vital for emotion recognition.

Background: Although early palliative care (EPC) integrated into standard cancer care improves the quality of lives of patients with cancer and their caregivers, implementation strategies for EPC programs in individual clinical settings have not been established.

Objective: This pilot randomized controlled trial explored the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of nurse-led EPC using a screening-based program that focused on the individual concerns of patients with advanced lung cancer and their caregivers.

Design: This pilot study was a parallel-group randomized controlled trial in which patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive either EPC using the care program or standard care alone.
