Roots proliferate mainly through lateral root organogenesis events that succeed each other in a regular sequence. In the model plant Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana), live imaging of reporter lines containing the synthetic auxin-response DIRECT REPEAT5 (DR5) promoter have been instrumental for insight into pre-patterning mechanisms that shape root architecture. However, depending on the reporter line in use, the course of pre-patterning events leading to organogenesis may be described differently, causing confusion and misunderstandings in literature.

Background: Autosomal recessive mutations in genes encoding vitamin K cycle enzymes cause hereditary vitamin K-dependent clotting factor deficiency (VKCFD), a disorder characterized by excessive bleeding and a spectrum of non-bleeding phenotypes. While high-dose vitamin K therapy can partially or fully correct coagulopathy, impact on non-bleeding symptoms is limited.
Objectives: To investigate the molecular basis underlying the differential response to vitamin K therapy, we characterized novel gamma-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX) mutations identified in a VKCFD patient.

Just as a phylogeny encodes the evolutionary relationships among a group of organisms, a cophylogeny represents the coevolutionary relationships among symbiotic partners. Both are primarily reconstructed using computational analysis of biomolecular sequence data. The most widely used cophylogenetic reconstruction methods utilize an important simplifying assumption: species phylogenies for each set of coevolved taxa are required as input and assumed to be correct.

Protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), a pivotal serine/threonine phosphatase, plays a crucial role in cellular regulation and tumor suppression. Dysregulation of PP2A complex, particularly the Aα subunit and B56 family, is linked to malignancies through altered substrate interactions, exemplified by c-MYC dynamics. Given the challenges in identifying PP2A substrates-owing to the enzyme's expansive substrate range, transient interaction profiles, and complex regulatory mechanisms-we employed bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) sensors.

A variety of genetic diseases of the kidney tubule are amenable to correction via gene therapy. However, gene delivery to renal tubule epithelial cells mediated by viral vectors via the blood is inefficient due to the permselectivity of the glomerular barrier. We hypothesized that effacement of podocyte foot processes would disrupt typical glomerular limitations on filtration and make renal tubule epithelial cells susceptible to transduction from viral vectors delivered intravenously.
