This study aimed to evaluate the effect of wet ageing on chemical-physical characteristics of sirloin and bone-in rib eye steaks obtained from 18 months old young bulls and 27 months old heifers. A positive beef tenderization effect of wet ageing was observed with lower values constantly detected in the rib-eye samples and significantly lower shear force values showed in heifer steaks if compared to bulls. The pH values detected both in pre- and post-ageing samples fell in the normal range for meats. The water holding capacity of sirloin samples increased with ageing while in rib eye steaks, no significant differences were detected among samples taken before and after ageing. Meat ageing resulted in a decrease of cooking loss, while meat colour parameters were not influenced by ageing and fell within the normal range. An evident improvement of the sensorial quality of bone-in wet aged beef, especially in tenderness, was achieved.

With rising average global temperatures, extreme heat events are becoming more frequent and intense, placing heat vulnerable older adults at an elevated risk of mortality and morbidity. We recently showed that a brief 2h access to air-conditioning during a simulated heatwave confers cytoprotective benefits in older adults, however air-conditioning is inaccessible to many. While foot immersion and neck cooling have been proposed as alternative cooling strategies, their effects on cellular stress are unclear.

The current study evaluates the anticorrosive performance of Epoxy coating augmented with a distinctive, environmentally safe, nitrogen-doped graphene. A simple, green, and single-step cost-effective route for synthesis graphene nanosheets doped with nitrogen (Gr) has been developed using direct-solvothermal treatment of chitosan, under gentle conditions. The implementation of new waste sorting policies and "zero landfill" strategies has precipitated the premature retirement of municipal landfills and accelerated their aging, resulting in a significant decline in both the production and quality of landfill gas containing methane (CH), thereby impeding resource utilization and exacerbating carbon emissions. Waste-derived organic matter recharge can increase the availability of landfill gas, but the underlying mechanisms and influencing factors remain unclear. In this study, waste-derived organic matter (aged landfill leachate and wet waste slurry) available at the landfill campus was used as a supplemental carbon source to infuse into an anaerobic landfill column system to investigate the effects of exogenous carbon inputs on the performance of landfill CH generation by using metagenomic sequencing.

To illuminate the effects and mechanisms of Cd immobilized by rice husk biochar and soil solid components under wet-dry cycles, a 30-cycle accelerated aging incubation was conducted on soils with different levels of cadmium (Cd) pollution.
