Purpose: Since its inception, the National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities (NJC) has focused specifically on advocating for individuals with significant communication support needs resulting from intellectual disability. The purpose of this review article is to describe the history of terminology used to describe this group of individuals, share the results of a recent survey completed by 102 members of our NJC Network, and discuss the implications of decisions regarding terminology in the NJC's ongoing advocacy efforts.
Method: History of terminology used to describe people with intellectual disability is documented by reviewing the literature, policies, professional organizations, and self-advocacy groups that used various terms from the early 20th century to present day.

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are a spectrum of mental health conditions that are the most common pregnancy-related complications in the United States. Despite great strides in developing appropriate pharmacological and psychological treatments, PMADs continue to lack biological measures for diagnosis and prediction. Such measures could be effectively utilized to subtype and mechanistically explore PMADs and appropriately leverage mental healthcare resources.

Using EM connectomics, we identified a feed-forward pathway from protein-sensitive gustatory receptor neurons to swallowing motor neurons.

Introduction: Post-stroke spasticity can cause serious impairment, activity limitation, and participation restrictions for survivors, leading to stroke-related disability. While there are hundreds of qualitative studies regarding stroke survivor experience, the phenomenon of what it is like to have post-stroke spasticity is not well understood.
Methods: Ten community-dwelling adults with chronic stroke and upper limb spasticity who had recently participated in an intensive upper limb rehabilitation programme were interviewed.

Motor-driven transport on microtubules is critical for distributing organelles throughout the cell. Most commonly, organelle movement is mediated by cargo adaptors, proteins on the surface of an organelle that directly recruit microtubule-based motors. An alternative mechanism called hitchhiking was recently discovered: some organelles move, not by recruiting the motors directly, but instead by using membrane contact sites to attach to motor-driven vesicles and hitchhike along microtubules.
