This study investigates periodate-chlorite oxidation as a pretreatment to tailor the surface charge density of cellulose nanofibers employed in open-porous anisotropic hydrogel membranes for transdermal drug delivery. The obtained materials feature high specific surface (≤500 m g, BET), small average pore size (ca. 40 nm) and tunable surface charge, which are key properties for adsorption and slow release of charged drug molecules. Loading of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) piroxicam (PRX) into the membranes confirmed that the extent of loading is governed by surface charge density and carboxylate group content, respectively, which can be controlled by the oxidation procedure within the range of 0.74-2.00 mmol g. Prolonged release of PRX over several hours was observed upon exposure of the loaded membranes to simulated human skin fluid demonstrating the applicability as drug delivery patches.

This study investigates a multifunctional hydrogel system integrating carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in a 3D-printed limonene (LIM) scaffold coated with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS). The system allows to enhance wound healing, prevent infections, and monitor the healing progress. CMC is crosslinked with citric acid (CA) to form the hydrogel matrix (CMC-CA), while the 3D-printed limonene (LIM) scaffold is embedded within the hydrogel to provide mechanical support.

Persistent bacterial infections remain a major challenge in wound management. Although drug-loaded wound dressings have gained increasing attention, their therapeutic efficacy is often hindered by uncontrolled drug release and a lack of electrical signal responsiveness. Herein, an antibacterial dressing (CCS-PC) with electroactivity and stimulus-responsive drug release properties was fabricated via electro-assembly, wherein chitosan and ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CIP) were co-deposited onto polypyrrole (PPy)-coated gauze.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains a formidable clinical challenge due to its aggressive behavior, lack of therapeutic targets, and poor prognosis. The PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway is highly activated in TNBC, making it a promising therapeutic target. Conventional PEGylated nanocarriers often face challenges, such as accelerated blood clearance and lysosomal trapping.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been emerging as versatile reticular materials due to their tunable structures and functionalities, enabled by precise molecular engineering at the atomic level. While the integration of multiple components into COFs has substantially expanded their structural complexity, the strategic engineering of diverse functionalities within a single framework the random distribution of linkers with varying lengths remains largely unexplored. Here, we report a series of highly crystalline mixed-length multivariate COFs synthesized using azobenzene and bipyridine as linkers, where tuning the ratio of linkers and incorporating palladium effectively modulates the balance between near-infrared (NIR) light absorption and catalytic sites for NIR-generation of hydrogen peroxide (HO).
