Article Abstract

A 51-year-old woman with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia underwent a second cord blood transplantation followed by maintenance therapy with interferon-α. After 33 months, she developed cardiogenic shock caused by advanced atrioventricular block. Laboratory tests revealed increased myocardium enzymes, and ultrasonic cardiography demonstrated mild thickening of the left ventricular wall. She was diagnosed with myocarditis and successfully treated using prednisolone. Myocarditis after allogeneic stem cell transplantation is a rare but potentially fatal complication. However, it is important for physicians to be aware of this complication because all of the symptoms may be reversed with immunosuppressive treatment.

Introduction: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), caused by pathogenic variants in the survival motor neuron (SMN) gene, is the most common genetic cause of mortality in children under the age of two. Prior reports of obstetric sonograms performed in pregnancies with severe forms of fetal SMA have discrepant findings that may stem from a failure to account for the SMN2 copy number.

Methods: We present a neonate diagnosed with SMA type 0 postnatally (0SMN1/1SMN2 genotype).

Background And Objective: To develop an end-to-end artificial intelligence solution-video-based Multi-Point Tracking Network (MPTN), for detecting and tracking atrioventricular junction (AVJ) points from cardiovascular magnetic resonance and deriving AVJ motion parameters.

Methods: The MPTN model consists of two modules: AVJ point detection and AVJ motion tracking. The detection module utilizes convolutional-based feature extraction and elastic regression to detect all candidate AVJ points.

: Heart disease affects 0.1% to 4% of pregnant women, with congenital heart defects being the leading cause in developed countries. While maternal mortality is generally low, pre-existing cardiac conditions substantially increase adverse outcome risks.

Surgical advances have recently expanded the boundaries of feasibility for biventricular repair (BVR) in patients with complex congenital heart disease (CHD). In particular, diagnoses historically considered prohibitive for BVR-such as unbalanced atrioventricular septal defects (uAVSD), double-outlet right ventricles (DORV) with remote ventricular septal defects (VSD), atrioventricular valve straddle (AVVS), and heterotaxy-are now increasingly being managed with successful two-ventricle strategies. To determine whether fetal echocardiographic features once viewed as contraindications to BVR remain valid in the current surgical era, we retrospectively reviewed all patients evaluated by our institutional BVR committee from June 2023 to February 2025 with prenatally diagnosed uAVSD, DORV, or DORV-AVSD.

BACKGROUND Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS) is a rare genetic, mitochondrial disorder characterized by a triad of chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia, pigmentary retina degeneration, and cardiac conduction disorders, with onset before the age of 20 years. The disease can also manifest as several cardiovascular (CV) disorders, such as conduction disorders or dilated cardiomyopathy, along with neuromuscular and endocrinological complications. CASE REPORT A 46-year-old man diagnosed with KSS was admitted to the Institute of Heart Diseases in the qualification process for heart transplantation (Htx).
