Article Abstract

In June 2019, a single specimen collected at a used tyre company was identified as (Yamada, 1921), a sibling species of . has not been recorded outside Japan and South Korea. Although it has only shown dengue virus vector competence under laboratory conditions, its detection demonstrates the value of active surveillance at risk locations and molecular tools for timely intervention against exotic mosquitoes with potential future public health impact.

Background & Aims: This study assessed the association of remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)/related SLD (r-SLD; MASLD with excessive alcohol intake) as defined by the fatty liver index with the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Methods: Health examination data at baseline and after 2 years (2-Years) were extracted from a nationwide claims database in Japan. Among participants aged 18-72 years with at least 3 years of follow-up, 9345 participants with DM-associated MASLD/r-SLD and 71 932 participants with non-DM MASLD/r-SLD at baseline were included in the study.

Background: Ulleungdo and Dokdo, located in the East Sea, are volcanic islands with high ecological value due to their unique biodiversity. Although research on the insect fauna on these two Islands has been conducted from the early 19 century to recent times, limitations exist due to several issues, including misidentifications and historical errors. This study addresses these issues by conducting a comprehensive insect survey from 2020 to 2023, re-identifying misidentified specimens and compiling references to create an updated and accurate checklist of insect species for Ulleungdo and Dokdo.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels are linked to the occurrence of coronary artery disease (CAD), especially when factoring in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and glucose status.
  • It analyzed data from over 1.5 million individuals without previous CAD for the years 2008-2019, using Cox proportional hazards modeling to assess the risk of CAD based on different cholesterol and glucose levels.
  • The findings revealed that lower LDL-C levels combined with low HDL-C levels increased the risk of developing CAD significantly, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment strategies targeting LDL-C according to a patient's HDL-C levels and glucose tolerance.

Objective: This study aimed to compare an experimental model simulating clinical root canal irrigation (root canal model) with a conventional experimental model immersing dentin sample to irrigants (immersion model) to evaluate removal of the smear layer and decalcification of the root canal dentin using sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and two different concentrations of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) solution.

Materials And Methods: Forty-five single-rooted extracted human teeth were prepared using a Ni-Ti rotary file. EDTA, NaOCl, and citric acid were used in the root canal models and the immersion models.

Objective Third-generation cephalosporins (3GCs) may be susceptible in vitro to Enterobacter spp. and Klebsiella aerogenes. However, treatment with mainly fourth-generation cephalosporins or carbapenems is currently recommended.
