Advances in technologies and biomedical informatics have expanded capacity to generate and share biomedical data. With a lens on genomic data, we present a typology characterizing the data-sharing landscape in biomedical research to advance understanding of the key stakeholders and existing data-sharing practices. The typology highlights the diversity of data-sharing efforts and facilitators and reveals how novel data-sharing efforts are challenging existing norms regarding the role of individuals whom the data describe.

Wearable technology has a promising potential to transform users' lives by continuously collecting data and providing convenient services on demand. Yet, there is also a large potential to breach users' privacy compromising the confidentiality of sensitive data. The lack of privacy regulations is caused by a limited understanding of how to control data collection, access and sharing.

Background: Nigeria is the seventh-most populous country in the world. Its high fertility rate and unmet need for family planning contribute to the increasing population size. To reduce this gap, the Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with Injectables Access Collaborative and other public and private sector players, introduced the subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC) to the contraceptive method mix in 2017.

The global spread of hypervirulent (hvKp) poses a serious public health threat. In this study, we conducted genomic epidemiology analysis on 2097 global hvKp isolates, including our 900 isolates sequenced through the Illumina platform (177 of them fully sequenced through PacBio platform), representing the most comprehensive genomic analysis of hvKp to date. Our results identified six dominant clonal groups (CGs), particularly including CG23 and CG258, and 17 major virulence determinant combinations (VDCs) comprising 10 virulence gene profiles (VGPs), four types of virulence plasmids, four ICE variants, Tn, and _island.
