Patterns and Environmental Drivers of Soil Microbial Succession.

Glob Chang Biol

September 2025

State Key Laboratory of Lake and Watershed Science for Water Security, Wuhan Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan, People's Republic of China.

Succession has been a central theme of ecology for over a century, yet the patterns and drivers of soil microbial succession remain less well understood. Here, we analyzed the raw sequencing data of 5184 soil samples involving microbial succession, including primary succession, forest and grassland secondary succession. We provide the first evidence that the β-diversity (β-total, compositional dissimilarity between communities) of soil bacterial and fungal communities both decreased significantly with successional age in the three successional types.

The dataset comprises raw data collected using the ultrasonic pulse-echo method on a concrete specimen. The specimen addresses two fundamental non-destructive testing (NDT) challenges in civil engineering: locating built-in elements and determining dimensions to analyse both the internal and external geometry of concrete structures. For data acquisition, the surface of the concrete specimen was automatically scanned point by point, with pulse-echo measurements performed at each measuring point.

Scalable metasurface-enhanced supercool cement.

Sci Adv

August 2025

State Key Laboratory of Engineering Materials for Major Infrastructure, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 211189, China.

Structural materials with the capability for passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) show promise for the sustainable cooling of buildings. However, developing durable PDRC structural materials with optical robustness, ease of deployment, and scalability remain a challenge for civil engineering applications. We synthesized a metasurface-enhanced cooling cement using a universal, scalable pressure-driven fabrication strategy during a low-carbon production process.
